Join hundreds of runners and walkers from all over our region (and beyond) for the VCS “Virtual” Friendship Walk & 5K Run and raise funds to support individuals within our communities who are living with various forms of disability. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have decided to follow the popular trend of other annual running events and transition this year’s 13th annual Superhero themed Friendship Walk & 5K Run into a virtual event. Upon signing up, we will mail you a race bib for your official run or walk. After completing a distance of at least 5K (3.1 miles), you will be able to proudly wear and display your Virtual Friendship Walk & 5K Run finisher’s medal. (*disclaimer: first 100 registrants only receive finisher's medal)
This means that you can run, walk, or skip backwards. The method is up to you! Traditionally, this is a Superhero themed event so we would LOVE to have you post a photo of your “race day” ensemble (finisher’s medal, too!) on our Facebook event page.
This means that you do not have to run the entire distance in one day. You can finish the 3.1 miles at your own pace so long as the total distance is completed by Saturday, September 19th. Share your individual distances and times on our Facebook event page or simply share your final race “results” with your peers.
This means that there is no start or finish line. You make your own course whether it is around your neighborhood, the high school track, your treadmill, or your favorite trail. We encourage all participants to track your unique routes and post them to our Facebook event page so we can all learn new and exciting places to train and complete our runs.
- VCS Virtual Friendship Walk & 5K Run finisher’s medal
- Keepsake race sticker
- Commemorative race bib
- Interactive social platform for regular encouragement, training tips, and camaraderie
- Post-race celebration with fellow Superhero runners and friends on September 19th at Legion Memorial Park (*pending COVID-19 phasing)
Every penny raised through registration fees go to fund Voices of the Village, a client-based performance ensemble affiliated with Arlington-based Village Community Services, a 501c3 non-profit organization that supports individuals living with disabilities.
