The 5K run/walk will symbolize distances traveled to access water in other parts of the globe. All proceeds from the Run 4 Water MKE go to projects designed and built by Engineers Without Borders at UW-Milwaukee providing clean water to villages in rural Guatemala.
The virtual race can be completed any time between 6:00 AM on Saturday, April 22 and 10:30 AM on Sunday, April 30. Awards will be mailed out after the race.
***DISCLAIMER: The race directors reserve the right to change the in-person race to a virtual race.***
Submitting Your Result
An important part of this Virtual Race is submitting your time so that you can see how you rank, much like a traditional run. The event will be timed using the RaceJoy app. Even if you aren't planning to competitively run the race, this app will enhance your race experience by mapping the distance you have traveled (so you know when the race is over!), giving you customized race information as you progress, allowing friends and family to cheer you on, and more. Please visit www.racejoy.net/participants to learn more and download the RaceJoy app on your smartphone before you complete your race. You'll need your bib number which you can see by signing into your account at www.runsignup.com and looking at your registration for the race. If you are having trouble locating your bib number, please email us at run4watermke@gmail.com and we’ll email it to you. Below are instructions for getting the app set up after it is installed and you’ll also be emailed instruction from the app after you set it up:

Run and walk for water, so others don't have to!

In many parts of the world, access to water is very difficult. A major chore for the day involves walking an average of 3 miles each way to provide water for the family.
Run 4 Water MKE Mission:
Our mission is to acknowledge the importance of water in the daily lives of all human beings. Our annual walk/run is a statement of unity with the effort involved to access water. This mission is congruent with the United Nations World Water Day: http://www.unwater.org/worldwaterday/

The largest team will get to keep the traveling trophy in their office for a year!
When the 2020 Run 4 Water MKE was postponed and then eventually cancelled, those signed up were given the option to receive a refund or roll their registration over to the 2021 race. All those who did not request a refund were automatically rolled over into the virtual 2021 race to be completed between Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 25.
Since then, we had a fully virtual race in 2021, and a combination virtual and in-person event in 2022. For 2023, we are continuing to host the in-person and virtual events to encourage participation from wherever you are in the US. Plus, by setting up the virtual race now, we are prepared to fully shift the race to that format in the unfortunate circumstance that there is another pandemic.
Thank you for your understanding in years past and hope to see you at this years run!
