Description

Colby and Christina Kromminga are staples in the Kansas City area running community, and their son, Lucas, was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Our goal is to raise funds and demonstrate support as Lucas battles his illness. Specifically, treatment even in the best case can last years, and the family has been staying away from their home to be nearer to Lucas during his treatment. Our fundraising intent is to provide some relief for ongoing medical bills not covered by insurance as well as related expenses such as childcare for their daughter, Leah; respite care; home upkeep and expenses they cannot tend to themselves; travel expenses; etc. More than anything, we simply want to lift up our dear friends and show them that they are not alone during this challenging time.

The 5k race on the Zarda Family Farm's official cross-country course. Parking is available on the grass on the west side of the property. Signs will direct parking along with volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer, please let us know via the “Questions?” button below or sign up under our volunteers page.

Note: There is no T-shirt or medal for signing up and running since there is a separate fundraiser selling shirts. All funds raised beyond standard race expenses (bibs, portable restrooms rentals, website fees, etc.) will be given directly to the family with transparency to the family. These funds include participant registration as well as any other optional donations. If the registration fee is more than you can afford, we still welcome you to come and show your support. Also, there have been questions about high school track & field athlete participation and KSHSAA regulations. We have received some conflicting responses from their office and thus advise high school track & field athletes to NOT sign up. We would still love for athletes to come and participate socially, and can even run the course after the 5k as their training.
