Our Mission and Inspiration
We are a non-profit organization focused on identifying and assisting children living with the effects of gun violence and the trauma associated with it. We are thrilled to present the MM4M 4x4x48 Challenge, an event designed to raise awareness and funds for our cause! By participating in or supporting this event, you are directly contributing to a future where children affected by gun violence can access the help they need to heal and flourish.
Many Miles For Malakai was inspired by a child, Malakai Roberts, who was blinded by gunfire when he was only 5 years old. Our mission is to offer hope and healing to those, like Malakai, who have been caught in the crossfire of senseless violence, helping them to overcome their circumstances and thrive.
You can find additional details about his journey and how he continues to inspire the Many Miles For Malakai mission towards the end of the page.
MM4M 4x4x48 Challenge Overview
The MM4M 4x4x48 Challenge involves an individual person or team running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours, for a total of 48 miles!! This Challenge is very flexible in participation, allowing for creative strategies and teamwork.
All proceeds from the challenge will benefit the Many Miles For Malakai Non-Profit Corporation, supporting children affected by gun violence. Come get in some Miles for Malakai and other children while testing yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally in the Inaugural MM4M 4x4x48 Challenge!
All participants will receive an inaugural MM4M 4x4x48 commemorative t-shirt and digital MM4M 4x4x48 bib number, along with other prizes for certain team goals! See designs below and at registration!
Join us in person or virtually!
*** The only non- negotiable requirement to complete the Challenge: At least one team member must be completing the 4 miles every 4 hours until the 48 hours is up! ***
OPTIONS TO PARTICPATE:
1. Be Your Own Team!
Complete all 12 legs yourself.
You will Run/Walk/Ruck/Crawl 4 miles every 4 hours for a period of 48 hours. Grand Total: 48 Miles!
Note: Not a fan of Running/Walking/Rucking/Crawling?! There are options to Row/Bike/Swim an equivalent distance for the Challenge. Contact us if interested.
2. Be A Team Leader and Build A Team! (Team Leaders will sign up as "Relay Team" at signups; Team Leaders can continue to add team members after the team Is established)
You can choose the size of your team and then divide up the 12 legs between all of your team members. As long as at least one team member is doing 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours during the duration of the Challenge, the team will have conquered the MM4M 4x4x48 Challenge! Team Leaders can be creative and lead their teams. We encourage group runs, meaning you can have several team members completing multiple or all of the legs together, or they can be split up however you want. We just hope all team members challenge themselves and get out of their comfort zones. You will have team comradery and support, all while doing it for an amazing cause!!!
Team Examples:
Teams can have up to 12 team members:
Minimum Distance: A 12 member team could divide up each leg of the Challenge. Every team member would complete 4 miles one time, for a total of 48 miles for the team.
Maximum Distance: A 12 member team does every leg together. All 12 do all 12 legs, for a total of 576 miles for the team.
Example of a 4 person team:
Person A does 1st leg. Person B does 2nd. Person C does 3rd. Person D does 4th. Repeat two more times until 12 legs are completed, for a total of 48 miles.
Or you can have some team members run more legs of the Challenge than others. This is all up to the team! Be Creative! Have Fun! Challenge Yourself!
All individuals and teams will start each leg at the times described below (6 PM, 10 PM, 2 AM ...).

Malakai's Story
On December 21st, 2020, Malakai was lying next to his mom, Cacy, and little brother, when a hail of bullets tore through their Lexington home. Cacy suffered a gunshot wound to her arm and quickly discovered Malakai had been shot in the temple. The bullet that struck Malakai missed his brain by 2 centimeters and left him permanently blind.
Moving forward, Malakai and his family persevere by navigating through many challenges and adjusting to their “new normal” with his lack of eyesight. Malakai attends Fayette County Public Schools like other kids his age, as well as the Kentucky School for the Blind.
Malakai’s mom says that his positive attitude is the only way she has been able to push forward. She says he has moments where he wishes he could see the Christmas lights one last time, but mostly he is the same fun loving, competitive, silly kid he has always been! Malakai strives to experience the joys of life just like other kids his age and continues to hit milestones, like learing to ride a bicycle and being a co-author of the book The Adventures of Malakai Roberts: Teamwork Makes the Dream Work!
