The Friends of Maple Grove Cemetery, INC was established in October 2020 as a non-profit corporation, organized and operated exclusively as a 501(c)(3) to
provide for perpetual care and maintenance of Maple Grove Cemetery located in Richmond, Madison County, Kentucky. The Corporation is governed by 11 Board
members and is solely supported by donations.  Maple Grove Cemetery is the largest African American cemetery in Richmond. It officially became a cemetery in 1901 when 4 African-American residents filed Articles of Incorporation for the land located at the corner of East Main and Spring Streets. Additional land was added to the cemetery in 1910. There are over 1700 grave stones and many unidentified gravesites within the Cemetery, with over 250 Military members interred there.  The Friends of Maple Grove Cemetery, INC., is very grateful to be a recipient of proceeds from the Juneteenth Freedom 5K Fun Run. All donations and funds received will be used for future maintenance, mowing, landscaping improvements, historical signage, historical markers and grave stone repairs.

The Maurice Hibbard Non-traditional Scholarship was established in December 2022, after the sudden passing of Mr. Hibbard, a staunch supporter of education,
human rights and a champion of equal rights in all areas and for all people. Mr. Hibbard wanted everyone to have access to the opportunities that education
provides and to that end, he worked with a committee to establish this scholarship. The Scholarship will be managed by the Community Supporters of NAACP Branch #3099, which is in the process of seeking 501(c)(3) status.  This unique scholarship specifically targets adults, with Richmond – Madison County residents receiving first priority and (funds permitting) others considered, who are pursuing or wish to pursue a course of study leading to a diploma/ certificate/ or other on- the-job training programs at a trade, skill, technical or vocational school or planning to attend a short course leading to a certificate that will qualify them for a
better position or job or to pursue a different career path. The maximum award is $1000.00 per scholarship, with an annual maximum award of $2,000 or as funds permit.

New Liberty Family Shelter has a mission  “to provide temporary shelter and services to homeless families with dependent children in the community regardless of race, color or creed”. It is the only year-round shelter in Richmond which houses and services entire families. Established in May 1991, the New Liberty Family Shelter started as a grassroots community and collaborative effort led by the New Liberty Baptist Sunday School Convention, INC; Kentucky River Foothills Development Council and the City of Richmond. In 2012, New Liberty Baptist Sunday School Convention, INC became responsible for the whole operation. The Convention is a 501 (c) (3) Public Charity and has a Trustee Board that oversees Shelter operation. The Shelter has no paid employees and is entirely volunteer-run. The Shelter provides six furnished 1-3 bedroom apartments and has free laundry facilities and a food on-site. Families can stay up to six months while they work on their goals to learn and develop the necessary skills to become self-sufficient and obtain permanent housing. The Shelter is operated through financial and other donations which come from churches, individuals, community groups and community agencies.

Baptist Health Richmond is a 105-bed acute care hospital that has served its community for more than 120 years. Residents in surrounding counties utilize Baptist Health Richmond for their care, including those in Madison, Estill, Garrard, Rockcastle, Lee and Jackson counties. The hospital joined the Baptist Health family in 2012.
 

Saint Joseph Berea is a not-for-profit, faith-based hospital located in Berea, Kentucky. The hospital was established on the grounds of Berea College in 1898, and now serves as a 25-bed critical care access hospital for the residents of Madison, Estill, Garrard, Jackson and Rockcastle counties.

The mission of the NAACP is to secure the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights in order to eliminate race – based discrimination and ensure the health and well-being of all persons.
