Making Waves for Coral is partnering with The PPROM Foundation, a registered non-profit 501(c)(3) charity based in Colorado. Making Waves for Coral's mission is Turning the Tide Against PPROM by supporting families throughout pregnancy and beyond. Making Waves for Coral was founded in August 2019 by Julie Odar following the loss of her daughter Coral Francesca in April 2019 from complications due to PPROM.
Preterm Premature Rupture of Membranes or PPROM is the rupture of the amniotic sac in pregnancy prior to labor beginning and before 37 weeks gestation. This serious pregnancy complication occurs in 30-40% of preterm births and is the leading identifiable cause of preterm deliveries (Medscape, 2012). An estimated 140,000 women in the U.S. experience PPROM annually. PPROM can occur as early as the first trimester of pregnancy. If a mother doesn't develop an infection, it may be possible for the pregnancy to continue under the supervision of a Maternal Fetal Medicine Specialist. The PPROM Foundation provides resources and support for women diagnosed with PPROM in pregnancy. The PPROM Foundation offers peer support, patient and provider resources, and manages a patient registry. For more information email support@aapprom.org or visit www.aapprom.org.
