Description
The Island Ripple Run returns to Diamond Cove, Great Diamond Island, and Little Diamond Island! This is a 4-mile race around two islands in beautiful Casco Bay, just off the coast of downtown Portland. Participants will enjoy ocean views as this run follows picturesque island roads and wooded paths around Great Diamond Island, over the sandbar that attaches Great Diamond and Little Diamond Islands at low tide, around Little Diamond Island, and ends on the north side of Great Diamond Island near the tent site. All proceeds from this race go to the Dennis Farrell Memorial Scholarship Fund at Rippleffect, located on neighboring Cow Island. The Kids Diamond Dash kicks off the morning followed by the Island Ripple Run. Light refreshments will follow the races.
Dennis Farrell Memorial Scholarship Fund at Rippleffect
Learn more about Rippleffect and the Dennis Farrell Memorial Scholarship Fund. Rippleffect is a youth development and wilderness education organization located on neighboring Cow Island. Rippleffect is committed to providing equitable access to the outdoors, particularly to youth who are typically underserved and underrepresented in outdoor experiences. Through the Dennis Farrell Scholarship Fund at Rippleffect, more Maine youth have access to life changing outdoor experiences. This fund provides scholarships based on demonstrated need and prioritizes youth with economic, ethnic, or other barriers to outdoor experiences.
Transportation
Race participants (and supporters!) should plan to take the following Casco Bay Lines ferries to and from Diamond Cove, and expect the ride to take approximately 30 minutes. The ferries depart at the times listed below. Make sure to arrive early with enough time to find parking and purchase ferry tickets.
7:45 AM ferry from Portland to Diamond Cove
(there is also an 8:00 AM ferry from Portland to Diamond Cove)
11:40 AM ferry from Diamond Cove to Portland
Please note that the Casco Bay Lines 2023 Summer Schedule has not been released and these times are currently tentative based on previous summer schedules.
