Events for this Big House 5k:
Big House 5K
1 Mile Fun Run
The Big House 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run are Sold Out!
The overwhelming support has exceeded our expectations for a first-year run and in order to provide a memorable experience for all registered participants, we can no longer accept registrations.Thank you to all our registered participants and individual fundraisers for supporting the the six local non-profit entities. You can still actively support these great local causes and the fundraising efforts of our participants, by making a donation. We encourage you to come out on Sunday to support the community and cheer on the participants from the stands of the Big House!
Big House 5K is a new running event for the regional Midwest area. The University of Michigan's rich athletics tradition began in 1865 and continues to this day, with the Wolverines claiming more than 50 national championships in 12 sports. Our students, faculty and staff also regularly participate in dozens of intramural, club sport and fitness activities.
The race, owned and managed by the University of Michigan Athletic Department working in conjunction with the Ann Arbor Track Club, will coincide with the spring football weekend. The race will begin near the Stephen M. Ross Athletic Campus and finish on the field of the revered University of Michigan football stadium, the Big House.
In 2014, $12 from each registration will go to support six local, non-profit beneficiaries. Any additional proceeds (after expenses) will also benefit the selected group of local non-profits.
On Saturday afternoon (April 5), we invite you to pick up your race packet at the main entrance to Crisler Center from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. Before or after picking up your packet, we encourage you to head over to the Big House for the Michigan football spring game, take in the baseball or softball series at the Wilpon Complex, or witness Michigan lacrosse in action at Michigan Stadium. Race day events include a 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. The 5K is a USATF certified course.
For 2014, a guaranteed $12 of each participants registration fee will be split evenly and donated to the six official non-profit race beneficiaries. Any additional revenue after race expenses will be distributed to the charities as well. The official race beneficiaries for the Big House 5K are Food Gatherers, Humane Society of Huron Valley, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washtenaw County, Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley, Team Red, White and Blue - Ann Arbor Chapter and University Musical Society - Youth Education Programs. Thank you for supporting the local Washtenaw community!
