The 12 mile bike route is an out and back course, starting clockwise around the lake, then out on country roads, and back. Flat and fast.
The 3.3 mile run goes the opposite direction around the lake on an out and back.
What we love about the the out and back courses is you get to see all of your friends on the course!

However, although we attracted some super speedsters last year, this race is an excellent opportunity for first time triathletes! We start with a swim that includes excellent on water support, continue on a relatively flat and lovely bike course and end with a scenic out and back run around the frontage road of beautiful Diamond Lake.
As an event that promotes community, fitness and fun -- go ahead and build your own relay team. If you want to race and need help building a team, please reach out and we can help you find some teammates!
Notes: There are no refunds on registration fees. This is a fundraiser, so all funds will go to Diamond Lake Triathlon is a fundraiser for Cass County CASA and the Challenged Athletes Foundation. If you cannot attend, we are unable to send you your packets. If you cannot attend the awards ceremony, we cannot send awards to you after the race. If you must leave before the awards ceremony, please either have someone pick up your award, or talk to the RD ahead of time to try to get your award before you go.
This is a USAT Sanctioned Race
Tips for First Time Triathletes
We LOVE to welcome first time racers! You don't need a fancy bike or fancy gear to get started! However, you DO need to wear a bike helmet in order to participate!
In 2024, We are offering a swim only opportunity! We need more swimmers, so this is the perfect chance to practice swimming in open water, surrounded by a safety team. You will get to experience the thrill and the differences of no swim lanes!

Welcome First Time Triathletes and Relay Teams!
This race is the perfect race for first timers! Why is the sport of triathlon growing so fast? Cross training is not only fun, it also helps you reover and work on different muscle groups. There is heightened comradry- A lot of athletes can excel at one sport, but it is challenging to be good at three. It requires extra time and discipline to train.
Triathlon is swim- bike- run in that order. You wear the same clothing for all three, so it is always good to practice getting wet with what you are wearing on the run. If you have seen triathlons on TV where they have changing tents, that is for a much larger, longer race. For most of the local races, you will be wearing the same thing for swim, bike and run.
There are plenty of special "kits" available, but if you are new, don't worry about it. Wear bike shorts with less padding so they do not absorb alot of water.
PRACTICE wearing your clothes when wet to see how the materials feel and look
WOMEN - You might consider wearing a sports bra under your swim suit/ or tankini or bike shirt so that you are more comfortable on the run.
PACK CAREFULLY When you arrive, you will put all your gear at your spot in the transition area. Your bike, shoes, helmet, glasses, run shoes, etc. You have the space of a hand towel and all your gear should fit under your bike.
NEVER EVER touch anyone else's gear in the transition area. If there is an issue with space, ask a volunteer or race official to intervene.
RELAY TEAMS You will share one timing chip. This chip will be exchanged in the transition area by your bike. So when the swimmer has finished, they run back to the transition area. The cyclist will bend down to take the timing strap off their ankle and then head out. Similarly, after the bike ride is over, the runner will be waiting at the spot to get the chip and then head out on the run.
We hope to see you at Diamond Lake Triathlon- whether it is your very first triathlon or relay, or if this is your 100th race!
* Super friendly vibe
* Gorgeous views for inspiration
* Lots of water support for the swim- flat and fast bike course - rolling run (mini rolls) with lake views
