Update on the 2020 Woofer Walk and Cat Nap

Update on the 2020 Woofer Walk and Cat Nap

With the uncertainty on if and when we would be able to hold the Woofer Walk this year, the committee has decided to proceed the best way we can.  The 11th Annual Woofer Walk and 5K will continue as a VIRTUAL RUN/WALK.  If you registered for the Cat Nap nothing will change for you. If you have registered for the Woofer Walk your registration has automatically been transferred to the virtual event.  How does a virtual run/walk work? This weekend, next weekend, or whenever works for your schedule, instead of meeting and running through campus as a group we encourage you to run or walk  your chosen distance on your own either outside or on a treadmill.  A virtual run still allows everyone to support Ingham County Animal Shelter Fund and the work they do while being active in a safe way.  We are not requiring anyone to submit their times and we will not issue awards this year.

Registration, fundraising, and clothing sales will be open until May 16th so anyone that wants to support our cause can still do so. Registered participants will still receive a free t-shirt. Once the Stay at Home order is lifted we will provide further details as to how and when to get your t-shirt or clothing order. You will be notified via email with this information at a future date.

If you are not interested in running virtually, you can transfer your registration into a donation to ICASF.  ICASF provides life-saving surgeries and treatments, such as tumor removal and heart worm treatment, as well individualized treatments that greatly improve each animal’s quality of life. Please visit Ingham County Animal Shelter’s Facebook page to see how your donations help.

The committee is aware of how upside down everything is right now due to COVID-19.  If your registration/donation will create a financial hardship for your family, please feel free to contact us at wooferwalkmsu@gmail.com.

Thank you for your understanding. This was a difficult decision and we will miss seeing everyone and their dogs this year.  We plan to be back in 2021.  Until then we hope everyone stays safe and healthy.

 Sincerely,
Woofer Walk 2020 Committee

Description

The 11th Annual Woofer Walk & 5K has gone virtual! Register until May 31st to raise funds for the homeless animals of Ingham County. Over a thousand animals are brought into Ingham County Animal Control (ICAC) every year. For some, it is simply waiting for an owner to come and claim them; others require extensive surgery and rehabilitation before they can find their forever home. The Woofer Walk is 100% volunteer, sponsor, and partner driven. This event brings in much needed funds each year, all of which goes directly to the Animal Cruelty Fund and the Ingham County Animal Shelter Fund.

In addition to the walk & 5K we will have a number of vendor booths and fun activities to visit and enjoy before race kickoff.

**New this year** Why should dogs have all the fun?  Register for the any distance Cat Nap!  Anything goes in this one – if your cat likes to sleep on your lap, be pushed in a stroller, or  go for a walk - it all works.  Enjoy time with your cat, get an official Cat Nap t-shirt (pick up same as Woofer Walk unless otherwise arranged with race managers), and help support the Animal Cruelty Fund and Shelter Fund too.

Awards: Overall male and female and 1st, 2nd and 3rd in age groups male and female Under 20, 21-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+

Any registrants past the t-shirt order deadline of May 9th will receive a t-shirt at packet pick up.  Sizes are not guaranteed.  Additional shirts will be available for purchase the day of the event.

Registration and Packet pickup will be available at Playmakers Okemos (2299 W Grand River Ave)
Friday, May 15, 5-7PM if you would like to pick up your t-shirt and info (+ race bib) and beat the line on Saturday morning!

Race day registration and packet pickup will begin at 10:00 am day of the event.

The race will be chip timed by the Michigan Running Foundation. Results will be posted during the race and on the web at Playmakers.com.
