One in Five Virtual 51K Challenge for Mental Health Awareness Month

Sat May 1 - Mon May 31

Kick off the 2021 1 in 5 Run Series with our Mental Health Awareness Month Virtual 51K Challenge. Run or walk 51k in the month of May, honoring the 51.5 million who live with a form of mental illness in the US. 51K is a little over 31 miles – and with 31 days in May, that’s about a mile a day! (Of course, how you break the distance down is completely up to you.) Open to participants worldwide at no cost.

Share your photo as you rack up your miles! Use the hashtags #may51kchallenge or #forthe1in5. Upload your photos here, or send them to Stay tuned to your email, Facebook, and Instagram throughout the month for updates and inspiration as we complete the challenge together. We’ll also be announcing more about future events for the 2021 1 in 5 Run Series.

Navigate to the 'results' tab in the menu to upload your activities, review your progress, and see how your fellow runners are doing!

You can also submit activities by going to your personal RunSignup profile, and clicking 'submit virtual results' underneath the One in Five Virtual 51K event.

Fundraising Challenge - Support for Frontline Workers

This month isn’t just about awareness – it’s about action. As you get out and get moving, you can also help support crucial mental health services by inviting family and friends to contribute in honor of your 51K challenge by becoming a fundraiser. All funds raised will go toward making a difference for mental health – and there’s some swag on the line, too.

  • Raise $40, receive a One in Five Run Series medal and t-shirt
  • Raise $100, receive the above items and a One in Five Run Series New Era running shirt
  • Raise $200, receive One in Five Run Series swag box including above items, the special edition Mental Health Matters shirt from The Mitten State, and One in Five H2Go water bottle
  • Raise $600, get the ultra swag box with above items plus a One in Five North Face fleece, sherpa blanket, and slate coaster set.

We’ve all been through a lot this past year, and it’s been especially challenging for healthcare, frontline, and essential workers who faced the pandemic head-on. That’s why funds raised through the One in Five Series in 2021 will go toward crucial mental health programming designed to support these hard-hit groups.

To become a fundraiser hover over 'donate' in the menu above, and then click on 'become a fundraiser'.
