Description
The Running To Honor 5K is a timed, family friendly walk (or run) focused on keeping the memory of our Fallen Soldiers & Veterans alive and reminding others that Freedom is never free. The event will take place on Saturday, July 26th, 2025 inside Heritage Park located at 12111 Pardee Rd, Taylor, MI 48180. The start time of the 5K walk (or run) is 8:00 AM in front of the Sheridan Pavilion. The Kids .5K will start at 7:30 AM.
The theme this year is the Afghanistan War. The Afghanistan War lasted from 2001 to 2021. We are hoping we can educate others in the community about what the Afghanistan War was about and keep the history and memory of our Fallen Soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan alive as we say their names and walk (or run) in memory of them.
The Taylor Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 4422 and Running To Honor organizations will receive the proceeds raised from this event.
We recognize that families want to bring their kids to the Running To Honor 5K but the registration cost might be too much or their kids might not be able to walk (or run) 3.1 miles. As a result we have two events for kids 14 and under! We offer a special discounted price for the 5K walk (or run) and a .5K (that is Point 5K) which is roughly .31 miles. The hope is that this will encourage families to come out and support the cause.
If you can't walk (or run) just come out and enjoy the atmosphere and look at the names and picture of those Fallen Soldiers and Fallen Veterans that we have lost.
Participant Shirts & Finisher Medals
If you register before 6/16/2025, you will be guaranteed a participant t-shirt. The brand of the shirt is Leslie Jordan and the specific material type is called "lattice". We receive tons of feedback every year that our participants love the feel of the material so we continue to stick with what people love! The American flag is displayed on the left sleeve with the stars (union) facing forward. This means we continue to advance forward as a country and face challenges head on. Displaying the flag with the stars to the rear would mean we are retreating and that is something we simply don't do as Americans. The right sleeve of the shirt has the number "22" displayed. In the military this is where a combat patch would go. We are at war with Veteran suicide and continue to lose 20-22 Veterans to suicide every day. The number 22 on the sleeve helps spread awareness of the issue and hopefully helps get the conversation going with others about the importance of talking about mental health. Note that you can purchase additional shirts during the registration process.
If you only want to purchase a shirt you can do that by signing up for the Virtual 5K and the shirt will be mailed to you.
