The fact that we have a large East African community in Minneapolis, the general perception is that there is a great possibility of finding great talent of distance runners. Due to lack of organization and information the kids in this community never had the opportunity to be introduced to the sport. Now having the opportunity the program has already found some promising young talents. Just for people to have a better perspective these are athletes capable of running around the world standard times. Therefore, as the term elite explains the vision for this group is to nurture their potential in multifaceted training system to reach the Olympic caliber in the future.
Training generally runs Monday/Wednesday/Friday. Athletes work with Abdi Bile on physical, tactical, and mental training. Detailed training and race plans are part of the program. Meeting locations vary for the Elite Team – The Trailhead at Theodore Wirth Park, Bryn Mawr Meadows, and Fort Snelling are common training locations.
Along with an incredibly successful running career, Abdi Bile has made a name for himself over the years as a highly knowledgeable running coach. His distinguished career includes coaching as the National Head Coach of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, the Senior Endurance Coach as Aspire Academy, and the Junior National Team Coach of Qatar. Bile was also the Co-Founder and Head Coach of the Savannah International Training Center in the United States, sponsored by the International Olympic Solidarity Program.
Bile has made it his personal mission to mentor and inspire youth to enjoy sports and a variety of outdoor activities, aligning well with the Loppet Foundation’s mission to create a shared passion for year-round outdoor adventure in the Minneapolis area.
