Onesie (Optional) Fun Run

Sat October 29 - Tue November 1

Description

There exists a whopping 50% gap — that’s right, 50 whole percentage points — in college attendance rates between students who come from the highest-earning families and the lowest-earning.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Earn that Halloween candy and join us in the third annual Onesie (Optional) Fun Run to support local St. Louis non-profit, I Do It For Her! Serving individuals from low-income communities, our mission requires us to not sit idly by while the college completion gap continues to widen between those who live above and below the poverty line in the U.S.

College is more expensive—and important—than ever before. Some 44 million Americans collectively hold nearly $1.6 trillion in student debt. And these numbers are growing. This decade alone, college costs increased by 25% and student debt increased by 107%. And while universities across the country have increasingly decided to move classes online this fall, many have only nominally reduced the price of tuition.

We've all heard about the impact on lifetime earning potential for those who can afford higher education; that college graduates earn 80% more than those with just a high school diploma. But the cost of getting that degree is becoming more and more insurmountable for so many in the U.S. who lack the financial resources to even try and earn one.

Since 2012, we have worked tirelessly to do our part in closing the College Completion Gap, an absolutely alarming trend that sees only 14% of low-income students receiving a bachelor’s or higher degree within eight years of graduating from high-school compared to 29% of middle-income students. By providing "last-dollar" scholarships to cover the soaring costs of tuition at most universities, I Do It For Her is dedicated to helping individuals break the vicious cycle of poverty so many unfortunately face without a college degree.

"Why a onesie?"... Well, why the hell not?! It's Halloween 👻 🎃 and just because you may be too old to actually go trick-or-treating doesn't mean you still can't dress up and act like a kid. Plus, every race needs a gimmick, right?

Whether you're an avid runner, proud dog parent, or just plain excited to show off your favorite onesie, we've got an event just for you! As a 100% virtual race, you'll have complete freedom to do whichever event you sign up for whenever and wherever you'd like.

With no registration fees, all we ask is that you consider making a charitable donation during the registration process (though it's not a requirement) and help us spread the word about what we're trying to accomplish by posting all your training and day-of photos to your social media with the #ForHerOnesieFunsie.

Every person who registers will receive a virtual bib and a pair of our custom I Do It For Her military-style dog-tags. Fully customizable, we guarantee you'll absolutely love to wear them around town long after your event is finished and not hide them away in some shoe-box along with all your other race medals🥇.

Donations of $20+ will get you a sweeeet sticker to add to your collection and for those who donate $35+, you'll get an alarmingly-stylish headband, courtesy of our friends at BOCO Gear!

Step 1: Register

Easy enough and completely free!

Step 2: Plan Your Virtual Race

The cool part of a virtual race? You can do it wherever you want. Whether it's laps around your neighborhood or living room, you get to choose just exactly where you want to participate. You'll have the entire Halloween weekend to complete your chosen event.

Step 3: Get Your Swag

Regardless of any donation, you'll receive a complimentary finisher dog-tag at no cost. [Make sure you use a valid mailing address] It comes emblazoned with the For Her logo on one side while the other side is completely blank so you can personalize it yourself! Use a dry-erase marker to write the name of someone who inspires you and be sure to share on all your socials with the tag #ForHerOnesieFunsie so the world can see!

Step 4: Run your race

Are you still trying to figure out if you're a morning person? How about more of a mid-day warrior? Or even a night-owl who just can't seem to find the energy to go to the gym until well after bedtime? Well, the beauty of this virtual race is that you'll have the entire weekend to start/finish your event! And better yet, you'll get to choose the exact location. So if your neighborhood has a nice, paved path you'd prefer to stomp out the miles while cranking out your favorite song or podcast, more power to you! 💪

Step 5: Share Your Experience and Post Results

During these challenging times, you dug deep and completed this event all on your own. Don’t keep it to yourself because after all, if it's not on social media, did it even really happen?!?  Let your fellow participants and the world know about your accomplishment. Take photos and share them on social media as you go. Be sure to tag us at #ForHerOnesieFunsie and on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. When you're done, if you signed up for text/email notifications, you'll be asked to submit your results easy-peasy. There's plenty of other ways to submit, though, just follow this handy guide and then give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back for a job well done.

We will be mailing everyone their finisher dog-tag and bib number starting October 1st.
