Description
The Community Health Center Association of Mississippi presents the 3rd annual 65x65 5K Run/Walk and 10K, as part of the Obesity Prevention Challenge led by the state’s 21 community health centers.
Mississippi’s obesity rate among adults is 37.3 percent. A third of the U.S. population is obese. Without dedicated efforts to combat the epidemic, this rate of prevalence is projected to jump to 50 percent by 2030* Obesity is an epidemic in Mississippi that contributes to other chronic health conditions. Community health center providers treat more than 300,000 Mississippians each year, many with chronic disease. This led to Mississippi’s community health centers developing the 65x65 Obesity Prevention Challenge.
65x65 is the health outcome goal set by Mississippi’s community health centers…65,000 fewer Mississippians with the disease of obesity by 2065.*
Delta Health Center's event will take place on the Downtown Cleveland (MS) Walking Trail on August 10, 2019 at 7:30am. At the same time as the feature race, up to 17 other 5k races are being held throughout Mississippi at community health centers making this the largest multi-race of its kind.
