Description

The Whitefish Lake Sprint Triathlon is an old fashioned triathlon in the heart of Whitefish. Check our website for course maps! Details are also listed below.

The SWIM:
The Swim is a 1/2-mile point- to- point swim. It starts at the far left side of Whitefish City Beach and proceeds across the small bay to a buoy. Swimmers come back to the left corner of the public swim area. We haven't a clue what the water temperature will be. If summer weather holds it will be warm; however if there is a windstorm stirring up cold water, it will be cold. Conclusion: bring your wet suit.

The BIKE:
The Bicycle route will start on Edgewood just behind City Beach Parking Lot. Bike to proceed down Edgewood to Wisconsin then left for 5 miles to a turn-around just past Hell Roaring creek. Return route the same coming back.

The bike is a scenic 20K out -and- back traveling along Whitefish Lake. The first and last 4 miles are flat and fast. The middle 4 miles are challenging hills with turns that will test your conditioning and bike handling skills. Be careful the course is open to vehicular traffic and is on curvy, hilly, narrow roads.

The RUN:
The Run is a 5K starting and ending at Whitefish City Beach traveling mostly on Dakota Ave. It is a 2 lap route.

The run Starts at Lakeside Blvd. to Skyles Place to a left on Dakota, then north to a cul-de-sac turnaround, where you will backtrack until the intersection of Dakota and Skyles,. Runners will continue to intersection with Edgewood, then right on Edgewood back to city beach for a second lap.

There will be an aid station on the run course that you will pass twice, offering an electrolyte beverage and water.

Course Maps are located at the bottom of this page.

The swim will start from the beach and swim straight out to the right of the first buoy, turn left for a short distance to the second buoy, then back around to complete the triangle by swimming back to the beach. You should swim by the buoys next to your left shoulder.

There will be a police officer managing traffic at the intersection of Edgewood and Wisconsin. Be sure to stay to the right, and we strongly encourage you to choose the road instead of the bike path. Many pedestrians walk pets on the bike path and could present a problem for cyclists.

There will be cones and a volunteer at the turnaround point up E Lakeshore Dr. Mind your speed at the turnaround point as the left shoulder of the road is next to a steep drop-off. You will then back-track the same course back to the transition area. Always bike on the right side of the road and only pass athletes on the left, calling out loudly when doing so.

The run will go north on Lakeside Blvd, north on Dakota Ave, then turnaround to go South on Dakota Ave to Edgewood Place. The run course is TWO LAPS. On the second lap, you will run north on Washington Ave and take a left back to the transition area, where the finish line will be.
