So you’ve never run a Virtual 5K? Don’t worry - it’s our first time, too. So let’s learn together!
What is a virtual race?
A virtual race can be run (or walked) anywhere, even indoors on a treadmill. Because of COVID-19, virtual races are becoming a popular way for people to stay active, have fun and even raise some money for their favorite local charity - like McHenry Kiwanis!
Do I have to run exactly 5K?
In our virtual race, we track distance and time. So if you’re up for the challenge, yeah. Map out a 5 kilometer course (that’s 3.1 miles), and have at it.
When will the race be held?
You can run any day or time between September 13 and October 3.
If I've already registered, do I need to register again for the virtual race?
Nope. Your registration will automatically convert over to the virtual race.
Can I walk?
Our virtual 5K is more about motivating our supporters to stay active while raising much-needed funds for McHenry Kiwanis. So if you need to walk our virtual 5K, by all means do so. We’re out to have fun, not enforce strict rules!
How do I submit my time?
After you complete your McHenry Shamrock Shuffle in the safety of your own neighborhood, simply click on this link to submit your virtual result:

Do I get one of those snazzy T-shirts?
You bet! Swag bags and T-shirts can be picked up at the McHenry Recreation Center (see schedule).
If I've registered but decide to stay indoors, can I still get the snazzy T-shirt?
Stay safe. If you are unable to run/walk the 5K but paid the registration fee, we will still happily get you your shirt. Thank you for your support. You can run/walk it on a treadmill if you have one.
Are there awards?
Absolutely! After the race, medals can be picked-up at the McHenry Recreation Center or mailed to 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners of each Male/Female age category. The top male and female overall finishers receive a special award also.
Will there still be an award for the Largest Team?
Of course! It helps to stay motivated when you can join a team and win that super cool plaque and show it off! It’s fun to run when you’re all in it together! Post your group pics on Facebook and Instagram. #mchenryshamrockshuffle #mchenrykiwanis #halfwaytostpatricksday5K
Will there still be a Kids Fun Run?
Unfortunately, there will not. Feel free to run one on your own, however. All previous registrants have been bumped to the 5K at no additional cost. Swag bags and T-shirts are still available for pick-up.
Can I get a reimbursement if I've already registered?
You may. If the virtual race option is just not for you, we can get you a refunds (minus administrative fees). Or, please consider your fee as a donation to McHenry Kiwanis.
