In Memory Of Teresa Spangler

This race is dedicated to the memory of Teresa Spangler, a member of our ALS family who sadly passed away in September of 2024. Here are some words from her daughter, Merritt, about who Teresa was and how resilient she continued to be throughout the awful disease. Please read.

"Teresa Spangler was a remarkable wife, mother and leader whose legacy of courage, love, and mentorship continues to inspire. Teresa was diagnosed with ALS in August 17, 2023 and faced her battle with the disease with unwavering strength. Despite the difficult progression of the disease it eventually took her life a little over a year later on September 7, 2024.

As an esteemed professor in the business school at Appalachian State University, she not only shaped the minds of future leaders but also touched countless lives with her creativity, passion, and intellect. Teresa built a distinguished career as a senior executive in Sales, working with several leading technology companies. Notably, she played a key role at Red Hat, contributing to the company’s successful journey to becoming publicly traded.

Known for her unstoppable determination, she embraced life’s challenges head-on, proudly calling herself a “challenge junkie.” She followed her creative instincts by founding the band The Headless Chickens and a philanthropic performing arts organization that supported over 200 original artists. Teresa’s determination and resilience in the face of ALS embodied her spirit of perseverance and her legacy of love, leadership, and creativity will live on in the hearts of those she touched."

The GoFundMe to support Teresa's family is linked in the "In Memory Of Teresa Spangler" heading section.
