New Date: Spring 2022
Dear DNA Day 5k runners,
We regret to inform you that the DNA Day 5k will be postponed until Spring 2022. This decision was not easily made, as we were excited to hold it and we know that many of you have been preparing with training, lab t-shirts, etc. However, this decision is in accordance with UNC School of Medicine policies and our belief that it is important to show respect to UNC’s heath care physicians, nurses, and staff who are currently treating a record number of COVID patients. By postponing to the spring we expect that the race can be carried out with the social aspects that many runners appreciate. In addition, we are planning to bring our DNA Day school visits back in person this spring and hope we can celebrate that with a full, in person 5K around the same time.
Additional race information can be found at http://ncdnaday.org/5k/.
The NC DNA Day 5K is an annual run to support science education in North Carolina. Specifically, funds raised from this event will support North Carolina DNA Day – an annual event that connects NC scientists with high school classrooms across the state to inspire and educate the next generation of scientists, to support North Carolina science teachers, and to bridge the gap between North Carolina’s leading research enterprises and high school science classrooms. NC DNA Day sends over 150 scientists into high schools each year, and since 2010 has reached over 75,000 students statewide! The run takes place on the beautiful campus of UNC Chapel Hill.
