Welcome to the Dream On 3 “Get In The Huddle” Virtual Walk/Run/Bike Challenge Presented by James River Equipment benefitting the non-profit organization Dream On 3 based in Charlotte, NC.
Dream On 3 creates sports-themed experiences for those, ages 5-21, who are living with a life-altering condition by customizing V.I.P. experiences with a favorite athlete, sports team, or sporting event. Dream On 3 hopes to ignite faith, hope, love and joy into the lives of their recipients (Dream Kids). Dream On 3’s programs include Dream Experiences, Collegiate and Jr. Dream Teams, Day Dreams, alumni programs and the Dream On 3 scholarship program.

This challenge will run from January 1st, 2022 through January 28th, 2022. 100% of all registration proceeds and donations (less whatever fees RunSignup charges to process payments) will go towards the Dream On 3 Organization.
There will be 2 virtual challenges that you can join anytime up until the challenge ends on 1/28/21:
A walk/run challenge road map will take you around virtually to various sporting points of interest in the Charlotte and North Carolina Piedmont Region.
A bike challenge road map will take you around virtually across North Carolina visiting various sporting points of interest.
Along the way you’ll learn about the rich sports history in North Carolina and past experiences of some Dream On 3 Dream Kids your registration fees and donations are supporting.
Want to make it more interesting?
Create a team of 1 to 5 people and challenge each other for the greatest cumulative distance, best pace, etc.
Examples of some types of teams to create:
Get the creative juices flowing and have some fun with it!
An entry into a cash drawing, provided by James River Equipment, for $ 2,000, $ 1,000 and $500 to be held at the Dream On 3 Gala Event on 1/29/2022 in Charlotte, NC.
That’s not a typo…here is who wins what.
There will be 5 “fields”.
When the Virtual Challenge ends, we'll take the total field of Individual bikers, individual runners, individual walkers, bike teams, walk/run teams and divide each group into thirds.
$ 2,000 top prize
The top 3rd of individuals in the walk, run and bike categories AND the top 3rd of the teams with the longest distance for each virtual race will be entered into the drawing automatically. If a team name is drawn the team members will split the $2000 prize. If an individual is drawn then, Congratulations, you’ll get the whole enchilada.
But there is more…
$ 1,000 2nd prize
The next 3rd of individuals in the walk, run and bike categories AND the next 3rd of the teams with the longest distance for each virtual race will be entered into the drawing automatically. If a Team name is drawn the team will split the $1000 prize. If an individual is drawn then you’ll get to laugh your way all the way to the bank, after stretching of course!
$500 3rd prize
We couldn’t let the bottom 3rd of individuals and teams feel left out so we’re spreading the love. We know you tried and we appreciate you for that! The bottom 3rd of individuals and teams will be entered into a drawing automatically. If a Team name is drawn the team will split the $500 prize. If an individual is drawn then you’ll get to do as you please with your winnings.
Tiebreakers – If there happens to be a need for a tie-breaker and you can’t get that last second walk/run/bike in, we’ll use the better average pace for the individual and team categories.
You will need to track your run/walk/bike using one of the many GPS-enabled tracking systems (Strava, Map My Run, Garmin, Wahoo, etc.). From there you will upload your tracked run/walk/bike into the event’s site which will update the leaderboard and move your dot across the course map. For the sake of validation, manual entries without GPS are not encouraged but will be permitted with a picture of the activity on your tracking device.
I recommend setting up an account with Strava. Strava syncs with just about everything, including Peloton if you plan on running or riding on a Peloton Bike or Tread. You can use the free version of Strava (subscription is not required) and export your activities to be uploaded into RunSignup. Click HERE for how to upload your results into RunSignup using .GPX or .FIT files and HERE for how to export your activities out of Strava.
You're either a beast or we miscalculated and made the road map too short, most likely the latter since we're not professional race organizers and we just want to raise as much money for Dream On 3 as we can. Just keep walking, running and biking because your stats keep compiling and the Challenge doesn't end until 1/28/22 at 11:59PM.
If cash prizes aren't enough, we also have these really cool race shirts available to purchase. We’ll try to have the shirts available as soon as possible. We’ll plan on ordering in batches and our goal is to have the first batch of shirts available by the start of the Challenge. You'll have the option to pick up your shirt at our Charlotte, NC James River Equipment (JRE) location or we can ship it to you for an additional fee. Please order your shirt early to ensure availability prior to the start of the Challenge.
When you register for a race, you will receive an email with a unique link you can distribute to your friends and family. If 5 people register for an event using your unique link you will receive a $25 discount off your registration.
As an added BONUS, after 5 people register using your unique link, you will receive an additional entry into the qualified cash drawing for each person that registers at the end of the Challenge.
Referred registrants MUST use your link to register or the referrals won’t count unfortunately.
Sometime the week of January 17th we'll be scheduling a meetup at a place TBD (most likely one of Charlotte's finest breweries). We want to get everyone together to spread some cheer, bust chops on who is slacking off (just kidding maybe not), take a bunch of cool photos and learn some more about what the fine folks at Dream On 3 are all about and how we can help make more Dreams Kids' Dreams come true.
More details to follow.
