Description

NOT A RACE - A RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
 Zombie Run
The doomed participants will run a non-timed 5k course with zombies stationed and hidden throughout the course. The zombies will attempt to pull flags from the runners’ flag belts. The first 50 participants who complete the course with at least one flag intact will receive an additional prize. Whether you are eaten by the zombies or you escape to tell the tale, all participants will receive a t-shirt.  Must be 12 or older to participate.  Zombies LOVE middle school kids so we recommend for their survival they are accompanied by a parent.
Monster Mile
A family-friendly run/walk where kids can bring their Halloween baskets to trick or treat and take pictures with our zombies. Families are encouraged to run the monster mile together. Zombies will be along the course, cheering the runners on as they run the mile.
This race is a spooky fundraiser used to support educational trips and program opportunities for Lyceum Academy. Lyceum Academy is an Honors program at New Hanover High School. The program is founded on project-based learning and collaboration across curriculums often outside the classroom. Over the junior and senior year, we will take several trips to enrich student understanding and perspective. Help us continue to meet our goal of never leaving a student behind on a trip due to financial issues. This event is run through the Lyceum Academy Boosters and is not affiliated with New Hanover County Schools.

Safety: To ensure the safety of our runners and zombies, we will have Lyceum staff and parent volunteers with all high school student zombie groups and throughout the course. They will serve as referees for the course to enforce the rules/safety of everyone involved. Referees have the final say in any dispute and can have runners or zombies removed if they are not following the safety rules. We will also have EMS and law enforcement on site as well in the case of an emergency.

Age Limits:  The Zombie 5k is limited to runners age 12 and up. Middle school age runners are suggested to have an adult run with them.

Rules:

  1. Zombies will not physically contact any runner other than in an attempt to pull a flag.
  2. Direct and intentional physical contact (pulling, grabbing, pushing, striking, blocking etc.) between zombies, runners, and/or volunteers will not be permitted.
  3. Participants that violate these rules will be disqualified and escorted off the course. Zombies and volunteers that violate these rules will be escorted off the course as well.
  4. Zombies can never grab more than one flag from a runner at one time.
  5. Runners must remain on the course at all times. Runners that do not stay on the course will be disqualified.
  6. Participants, zombies, and volunteers cannot engage in vulgar, offensive language or taunting.
  7. Zombies must stay in their designed zones and follow the instructions of their referee. Refusal to do so will result in removal from the event.
