Did You Know?!

The first settlers came to Berlin in 1714.  At that time, Berlin was a village known as "Long-A-Coming", as it was along the Lonaconing Indian Trail from the River to the Sea.

Berlin Hotel
c. 1826

The Berlin Hotel was built by Thomas Wright, and is the oldest commercial building on Route 30 from Philadelphia to Atlantic City.

The hotel was used as a stopping point for mule teams, stagecoaches, jitneys, and buses.  It was used as a hotel and restaurant until 1997, when it was closed.

The building was moved to its current location in 2000, in order to save it from being demolished.  It was restored by the efforts of the Long-A-Coming Historical Society.

The Berlin Hotel remains the most prominent landmark in Berlin, and is now part of the Marie Fleche Memorial Library.

Marie Fleche Memorial Library

The Marie Fleche Memorial Library, in Berlin Borough, New Jersey, has served the people of the community since 1957.

The moving and restoration of the Berlin Hotel came with an expansion of the library, as the main entrance is now located within the Berlin Hotel.  You can't check into any rooms, but you can check out some books!

Berlin Post Office
1894

The first authentic Post Office building in Berlin was built by Joseph B. Townsend in 1894.

It was originally situated adjacent to the Berlin Bakery, but has since been relocated to its new home behind the Historic Berlin Hotel.

Captured on Film

The 2004 movie, "Jersey Girl", which was written and directed by Kevin Smith, features a scene that was shot in the Berlin Diner.

In the scene, Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler sit across from each other in a booth at the diner, and if you look out the window between them, then you will see the street that both walkers and runners will be traversing during our 4th of July run/walk!
