RACE INFORMATION:

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This 5K is NOT flat! The course winds directly past the spacious enclosures of hundreds of rescued animals. You’ll be running and hiking right alongside cows, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, emus, peacocks, and even a water buffalo named Tundra! It’s the ultimate farm-trail experience.

COURSE MARKINGS & MAP:

The course will be marked with ribbons, flags, and we have large directional arrows at each of the turns. To learn more about how we mark the course and what the ribbons and signs look like, squatch on over to the Sassquad Trail School to watch the information video about our course markings!

AID STATION:

There are no on-course aid stations for the 5K, but we will have a vegan-friendly spread of snacks and plenty of water plus coffee at the finish line waiting for you!

MEDALS & AWARDS:

Every finisher will receive a handcrafted wooden medal that we make in the Squatch Shop. We also have handcrafted awards for the top three females, nonbinary, and males.

PACERS:

As with all of our events, Squatchers over the age of 60 and AWD (athletes with disabilities)  can have a pacer/guide at any time. Please pre-register your pacer with us before the start of the Trail Party. Pacers are not allowed for folks under the age of 60 and who are not an AWD.

Adaptive Athlete & Accessibility

At Sassquad, we believe the trails are for everyone. We are committed to supporting adaptive athletes through our Trailside Support program.

  • Support Guides: Guides/Pacers for adaptive athletes are always welcome and race for free. Please register your pacer/guide ahead of time. If you need help finding one, please submit the Accommodation Request Form.
  • Accommodations: Please submit an Accommodation Request Form at least 3 weeks before race day so our Trailside Support Team can plan accordingly.
  • Terrain Type: The Barnyard Squatch features a fun, autumn-inspired course! The terrain is a mix of grass farm paths, open fields, and dirt trails. Although it avoids the extreme boulder fields and steep mountain cliffs found in our races, this 5K course packs in over 500 feet of elevation gain- it's NOT flat!
  • Equipment Recommendation:
    • All-Terrain Wheelchairs: The wide farm paths and doublewide dirt trails are okay for off-road chairs. The open grass fields may require a bit more muscle depending on the ground conditions, so a support guide is recommended to help navigate any soft or uneven patches.
    • Ambulatory Adaptive: This is a fun "intro to trail" event and is highly accessible for ambulatory athletes of all paces, if you’re up for some hills! While the trail is non-technical, the typical fall farm grass can hide dips in the dirt, so trekking poles are welcome if you prefer extra stability.
  • Restrooms: Portable toilets are available at Squatch HQ, including one dedicated ADA-compliant unit.
  • Sensory Note: October on the farm is a blast, but it can be a lively environment with animals, music, and announcements at the main hub. If the crowd becomes overwhelming, the open spaces of the farm provide plenty of room to step away for a quiet moment.
