IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT for SYRACUSE Ugly Sweater 5K RUNNERS...
As we are sure you are aware, most of Onondaga County is in the "Yellow Zone" which limits gathering sizes to 25 people for outdoor events. 2020 has been the year of adjustments and adaptations. We have done what we can to put on in-person race events and our running community has embraced our protocols and helped to make the events fun as well as safe.
With regret we will only be offering the Syracuse Ugly Sweater as a modified in-person Virtu"REAL" or a Virtual event over 3 days.
OPTION 1: The VirtuREAL course has a start & finish at the Elks Lodge (3730 Cold Springs Rd, Baldwinsville, NY 13027) and will be set up on Friday, Saturday or Sunday from 9am-12pm. There is plenty of parking and there will be a bathroom available on Friday & Saturday- not on Sunday though.
OPTION 2: Virtual event- If you choose to run the Syracuse Ugly Sweater 5K as a "virtual" event you can run/walk anywhere you would like between Friday (Nov 27) and Sunday (Nov 29) at 4pm.
PACKET PICK-UP:
At Willow Health and Wellness Center, 3090 Belgium Road (Rt. 31- behind physical Therapy Plus), Baldwinsville, NY 13027
Whether you are running the Syracuse Ugly Sweater 5K as a virtual or as a modified in-person (Virtu"REAL") event please plan on coming to Willow HWC on one of these 3 days to pick up your swag.
For both the virtual and virtu"REAL" we will be posting pictures and videos on the event Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/RunTheUglySweater5k
. We encourage all participants to submit your own photos and videos as well. We will have awards/prizes for the annual Ugly Sweater Costume Contest.
The Dryden Ugly Sweater 5K (Dec 5th) and the Utica Ugly Sweater 5K (Dec 6th) at this point are still on as actual in-person race events as they are not in the yellow zone. For those interested in running in one of those events, you do have the option of transferring your registration at no charge. Simply email us at willowrunningNY@gmail.com and we can make that happen.
Come celebrate the transition from Thanksgiving to the Christmas season with a fun but competitive Syracuse Ugly Sweater 5K. This year we will hold the event at the Elks Lodge (3730 Cold Springs Rd, Baldwinsville, NY 13027) The 5K run will take place on N. Hays Rd., pretty flat and fast course similar to OLP course from previous years.. This year (6th Annual) the giveaway items will include a custom winter beanie and gloves. Once again we will be giving away to all participants the traditional jingle bell bracelet that will add to the "spirit and sound" of the this years event. All finishers also receive a medal that doubles as Christmas tree ornament. The Syracuse Ugly Sweater 5K is part of the Dick's Sporting Goods Family Fit Series. There will be awards for the Top and Age Group Finishers as well as prizes for best in dress contest.
The race will be capped at 450 participants due to Covid restrictions so please do not hesitate to register as we typically have 600+ at this annual event.
A portion of the proceeds and all donations will go to the St. Johns Community Services. Please bring winter clothing donations to the race. There will be a truck on location accepting items. They are especially seeking winter items ie. coats, boots, (sneakers as well) hats, mittens, socks and toiletries (tooth paste, tooth brushes, combs, etc.)
We ask that runners wear their favorite Ugly Sweater, prizes will be awarded for "best in dress", most creative and most unique Ugly Sweaters (we will have vintage Ugly Sweaters available for purchase for $10 at packet pickup events and race day). There will be prizes for the overall race winners for both male and female (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) as well as Age Group winners as well.
After the race there will be an Ugly Sweater party at the Elks Lodge including discounted beer and a free food offering for race participants. General public is welcome to attend and the bar will be open. The Elks Lodge is at the Start/Finish area.
TBD- Email will go out to ALL registered prior to Thanksgiving
