Description
The Vietnam Veterans Association is a national organization that works to provide services, care, education, and awareness for Vietnam Veterans. The organization runs a number of programs to help veterans with financial planning, job placement, and advocacy. They also work hard to be able to provide outreach services to those struggling with PTSD, homelessness, and substance abuse, services that otherwise are difficult to find.
The home of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 803 is the Vietnam War Museum on Davis St in Elmira, NY. The Museum is named in Honor of Major Robert H. Schuler Jr. who was shot down over Vietnam on October 15, 1965. The museum, dedicated solely to the Vietnam War, is run by Vietnam veteran volunteers and is open free to the public.
The Vietnam Veterans Association works hard to ensure the Veterans of our country are recognized, celebrated, and memorialized. In July of 2022, Chapter 803 will be bringing The Moving Wall, a half-scale replica of the Vietnam memorial in Washington D.C., to Eldridge Park in Elmira. The Moving Wall will bring history and community together to celebrate those who have given their lives. The 5K for VVA will help us to raise money for the organization and keep their history alive in the local communities.
