Description

Join us for the first ever VIRTUAL Blazing Trails 4- Mile Run/1.5 Mile Walk for Autism! You can complete your event  between 10/01/20 and 10/31/20 anywhere you choose ! This year's theme is Halloween - costumes are not required, but are strongly encouraged to make this event fun and unifying! 

Amenities

All participants will receive a beautiful indigo blue long-sleeved hooded t-shirt! If you register by October 15, you are guaranteed to have your hooded shirt available for pickup or mailing by October 26  *before* the racing period has ended! If you register after October 15, you may not be able to receive your swag until the second week of November, so please plan accordingly! 

Net proceeds will benefit the Eden II & Genesis Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit. 

Eden II/Genesis Programs is an agency serving individuals with autism in Long Island, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. Eden II provides families with school programs, services, residential facilities, and family support services for children and adults living with autism. As a premier autism agency, we are devoted to providing the best quality of life for individuals with autism throughout their lifetimes.  
 
Due to the current pandemic, our agency had cancelled nearly all in-person fundraising events which greatly impacted our fundraising capability. The funds raised during this event will help bridge the gap and assist the participants we serve.

Costume Contest & Scavenger Hunt!

This year's Run has a Halloween theme! Run as you are, or don your favorite costume - either way, you're a superhero!  Everyone wants to see your creativity - be sure to submit all of your race photos with your results! This year's costume contest is sponsored by BNB Bank

Costume Contest Details:

  • Enter a photo between 10/01/20 and end of day on 10/31/20
  • Family-friendly costumes - single or group photos are allowed
  • Must be registered for race in order to enter
  • Submit photo to run@eden2.org and/or info@glirc.org
  • Photo will be added to the Costume Contest Album on Eden 2's Facebook page - from there, you can share!
  • Photo with the most "likes" by 11/6/20 will be the winner of a $100 Amazon Gift Card! 
  • Winner will be announced in a LIVE DRAWING on Facebook/Instagram after the race period has ended! 

Scavenger Hunt Details:

  • For something to do on your run/walk to get the whole family involved, we have put together a Scavenger Hunt for you! There are two formats  for the same hunt - one with pictures for those who do not easily read the words, and one that's a little bit more difficult without pictures to help

Door Prizes

All registered participants will be entered in the door prize drawing!!! 

 All participants will be entered into the grand prize drawing which consists of two $250 Gift Cards,one to Brickwell and one to STOA Wellness  There are also ten $25 gift certificates to Amazon up for grabs!!!

A LIVE FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM DRAWING for these prizes will be taking place after the race period has ended. The drawing will be on Friday, November 6, at 2:00 PM on IG at @runglirc and on Facebook HERE.

Virtual Race Participant Instructions

You may run your race anytime after registering and before 11:59 PM EST on October 31, 2020. You can post your results October 1 through October 31st. 

Print your bib, complete your run either on the suggested courses or at your convenience elsewhere, and upload your results and photos on the race website. 

At registration, you must indicate whether or not your swag should be mailed to you, if you would be picking it up at the Genesis School  in East Meadow or if you would prefer to pick it up from the GLIRC Clubhouse.

Select View the Pre-Race bib. Print it out and wear as you run your race! Take a photo and share on social media!

Run Safely!

Please adhere to all local laws and guidelines that apply in your area regarding safety with COVID-19. Social distancing and/or masks are vital at this time. The current guidelines for the CDC regarding COVID-19 risk and prevention are found HERE.  It is fully within the rules of the virtual race to use a treadmill, so feel free to do that if it is a safer option for you. Give yourself sufficient time to rest and recover after all physical activities, and listen to your body. If you feel sick, consult a health practitioner and avoid physical activities until cleared.

If you are running in public, please adhere to all traffic safety laws in your area. Run on sidewalks where possible, and face oncoming traffic on road shoulders where sidewalks are not available so that you can see what is coming toward you at any given time. Consider wearing no headphones, or above-ear headphones that are not noise-canceling, so that you may hear what is going on around you.

Virtual Race Results

You may submit your results for this race through 11:59 PM EST October 31, 2020. Click here to reach the page where you can submit your virtual results.   You can also go to your RunSignUp profile, go to your Upcoming races, and click on Submit Virtual Results. 

Enjoy your race, and be sure to tag us in your results! We are @runglirc on Instagram, and use hashtag #BlazingTrails2020 and, you may find our Facebook public page HERE. If you are a current GLIRC member, be sure to join our members-only Facebook group to talk about the race and share ideas with other members. 

****Don't forget to print out your finisher's certificate after you submit your time by going back to the results! ****

Share Your Race Photos!

This virtual race is one that we perform while apart, but it can bring us together. We would all love to see where you ran, and those smiling finisher photos! Please upload your photos directly on RunSignup when you submit your results!  Once you post your results, on the next page click on "submit your photos" and then click on "start uploading your photos".

Don't forget that if you wore one, your photo should include your costume!

We would also love for you to post your photos on social media and tag us! Use the hashtag #BlazingTrails2020 on Instagram and Facebook, and please tag us - we are @runglirc on Instagram, and our Facebook page can be found HERE.
