Description

Join us on June 15th, 2024 and celebrate the 32nd Anniversary of the Rhulen Rock Hill Run & Ramble (R4). This 5k is an iconic local race and one of the longest standing in the Hudson Valley.

There are big changes this year. We are moving down the hill to Holiday Mountain Ski Area, where we have a new USTAF Certified 5K Course.  It is scenic and fast!

The 5K is hosted by The Trevor Loughlin foundation, which is inspired to make a difference in the lives of patients battling acute, catastrophic illnesses and all blood cancers. The battle to cure leukemia became a personal one for Race Director Suzy Loughlin and her family, when in 1998, her father, Walter Rhulen, died of leukemia. Walter, a dedicated runner, was committed to the health of his community.

In 2013, another tragedy resulted in the death of Suzy’s son Trevor, 21. The Trevor Loughlin Foundation is fueled by the force of a parent who wants her child to be remembered, along with the patients we have lost. Thanks to the generosity of many friends, family, volunteers, sponsors and donors who support Suzy and the TLF mission, grants are awarded to patients to provide financial help for living/medical expenses at a time when they need to focus on getting well.

Thank you for signing up for the R4 and being part of our TLF family. Thank you for choosing to matter.

USTAF Certified Course: NEW # AND OFFICIAL MAP COMING SOON

COURSE:

  • Race starts at the base of the lodge at Holiday Mt. Ski Area, follows Holiday Mt. Road until it intersects with Edwards Road. Follow Edwards Rd just over a mile (along side the beautiful Neversink River). Turn around and come back.
  • We know an out-and-back course may not be your favorite, but this one is special for three reasons: 1) It has NO TURNS other than the half way point; 2) It is flat; and 3) it follows along a scenic river. (The alternative would have been a course with really steep hills in every direction and you probably wouldn't come back next year!)
  • Runners and Ramblers who haven't reached the half way point-- please stay on the right side of the road so those that are on their way back have an un-obstructed course. Please also cheer them on as you will see them coming at you.

DOGS: We love our four legged friends, but for liability reasons they are NOT permitted on course, at the start or finish line, or anywhere at the race venue location. If you want your dog to join you in the R4, please select the virutal registration option. Thank you for your understanding.

Who We Help

Proceeds are donated to the Trevor Loughlin foundation, which issues grants to individuals battling blood cancer and other acute catastrophic illnesses; the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to help find a cure for blood cancer; DKMS Delete Blood Cancer to help patients locate bone marrow donors; and local charities that support patient journeys,  including Garnet Catskills Foundation, United Way of Sullivan County (serving as fiscal agent for some of our patient beneficiaries). We are grateful to Holiday Mountain for allowing us to stage the R4 at this amazing venue, and so appreciate the support of their employees and volunteers. This year we add the Holiday Mountain Foundation, a 501(c)3 (formerly named Holiday Mt. Ski Club) as a beneficiary in support of their mission to serve underprivileged children throughout the region by bringing them into the life-changing world of outdoor sports, at no cost for equipment, lessons or transportation.

Since 1993, we have donated over $1,600,000 to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Trevor Loughlin Foundation, American Heart Association, and local charities. Since 2013, the Trevor Loughlin Foundation has issued 141 patient grants to help with the financial challenges that accompany a catastrophic illness, like blood, brain, bladder, breast, colon, lung, and rectal cancer, to name a few. We’ve also added 760 heroes to the international bone marrow bank.

Raffles

The R4 is known for its awesome prizes. Raffles can be purchased during registration as well as on race day at the race site.

  • 1 for $5, 7 for $20.
  • Ticket stubs will be emailed to you prior to race day. Hard copies can be picked up on race day.

We continue working on great raffle prizes for the 2024 event.  So far:  Amazon $500 Gift Card, Apple $500 Gift Card, Blackstone Hard-Top Griddle; Bethel Woods Concert Passes, Golf Packages, Kartrite Hotel stay with Splash passes; Ooni Pizza Oven (back by popular demand!); Resort World Gift Certificate; Season Ski Passes, Wine, Meats/Seafood, Beauty Items, Restaurant Certificates, Car Washes, Regional Theater Tickets and more.

Thanks for your support. All Raffle proceeds benefit the Trevor Loughlin foundation.

Thank you for choosing to matter!

Bone Marrow Drive

BONE MARROW DRIVE:

The R4 Race Committee was inspired to hold a Bone Marrow Drive for the first time in 2008 when we learned a young man from Monticello, Jared Carlew, was in need of a donor. Jared, a brave 21 year old, stood before the R4 family of runners, walkers and volunteers, and told us all how important it was that we all become donors.  We reported later that year, with great sadness, that Jared passed away. He never had the transplant. Jared’s death has not been in vain. Since the day he addressed us all, the R4 has added over 760 names to the international bone marrow donor bank.

Every day, thousands are looking for a match. You may be the hero that will save a life.

If you are between 18 and 55, please stop by the Bone Marrow Tent and learn more about becoming a bone marrow donor. You could be the next hero that saves a life.

Brittany Beckmann Bakery

This pop-up bakery originated at the R4 in memory of Brittany Beckmann who lost her life to blood cancer. Each year, members of Brittany's family and volunteers prepare delicious baked goods available for purchase. They are 'paying kindness forward' to the R4, which provided a grant to Brittany. Please bring some extra money with you (credit card/venmo/paypal also accepted) and take these delectable treats home to your family for Father's Day. All funds raised benefit Trevor Loughlin Foundation.

Healthiest Fire Department Challenge

If you are a firefighter in Sullivan County participating in the Healthiest Fire Department Challenge, please so indicate when registering. (You will be asked.)

  • Each Fire Department will earn TWO points toward the challenge when five or more active members participate.

  • Departments who participate in the R4 will be entered into a special raffle for a grant in the amount of $500 grant from the Trevor Loughlin Foundation.
