Description

Adventure racing is coming to Central New York and the Tug Hill!

Tug Hill Outfitters is hosting a 3 hour adventure race on Saturday, September 18, 2021. The race will be trekking only, using a map and compass. No GPS allowed. Teams will run or walk the course and compete to see who can find the most checkpoints in the least amount of time. Can you find them all before time runs out?

This race has something for everyone, from families and newcomers, to competitive adventure racing and orienteering teams who are looking for a fun challenge in a cool place! If you're into obstacle course/mud run races, hiking, or geocaching, or have seen Eco Challenge Fiji on Amazon, this race and the sport of adventure racing is for you!

Top competing teams may clear the course in ~1.5 hours, but beginners or family teams may not find all of the checkpoints within the 3 hour time limit. Depending on route choice, the total course length is approximately 3 to 5 miles. Terrain features include woods, fields, streams, and swamps. Stick to the trails or cross the creek to save time!

Team size can range from 1-6 people (cap of 4 people for adult teams, but families can race with up to 6 people). Prior to the race there will be a free navigation clinic for newcomers so you can learn some adventure racing strategy and practice navigating using a topographical map and compass.

Adventure racing traditionally includes trekking, mountain biking, and paddling sections. We plan to host a 6-12 hour traditional adventure race in late spring of 2022, so this event will be a great introduction.

  • Registration - 8:30-10:00 AM
  • Pre-race strategy and navigation clinic - 9:00-9:45 AM
  • Map distribution & Team Strategy - 9:45-10:15 AM
  • Pre-race briefing - 10:15 AM
  • Race Start - 10:30 AM
  • Race Finish - 1:30 PM
  • Post-race awards - 2:00 PM
  • Post-race refreshments - 1:30-3:30 PM

For the post race festivities, we'll be partnering with our friends at Lunkenheimer Craft Brewing. Their beer is delicious, don't miss out!
Prizes will be awarded to top finishers in each category. Race t-shirts will be provided to everyone who registers by August 27th.

Cost:
$40 per person
$20 for children 18 & under (Children 5 & under are free)
