In-Person 5K Run
In-Person 2 Mile Walk (Untimed)
Description
Join us for the Annual Cancer Care Run & Walk on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at Martens Park, 710 Lincoln Ave, Lancaster, Ohio 43130. This 5K Run and 2-mile walk will start and end at Marten's Park, featuring a separate start for each event. The race is on a flat and fast paved bike path with a course sweeper team - no one finishes last!
Make sure to register by September 15th to receive a long-sleeved race T-shirt. Packet pickup is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. at the shelter house on the morning of the race.
Last year, our race registration hit record numbers with more than 230 runners and walkers strong who raised more than $11,000! All event proceeds fund local patients battling cancer. The Cancer Care Fund was started by TWIG 1 in September 2007. It has inspired the community to give to local cancer patients through the FMC Foundation. Local cancer patients benefit by receiving nutritional supplements, life-saving screenings, and diagnostic testing such as mammograms and colonoscopies for patients who could not afford them. Access to treatment and support close to home is crucial for members of our community, and the Cancer Care Fund is one way to make this possible.
Can't attend? Join us virtually! Pricing for the virtual run or walk includes shipping if you meet the September 15th T-shirt cutoff date.
Another way to support the event is by purchasing a Memorial Sign to be displayed at the start line/finisher's chute on the day of the race in honor or memory of a loved one. Memorial signs can be purchased online for $25 each. You can do this with your registration, or by itself.

Race Day Timeline
- 7:30 a.m. - Race day packet pickup and registration starts
- 8:45 a.m. - Packet pickup and registration ends
- 9:00 a.m. - Opening remarks by TWIG 1 and the Fairfield Medical Center Foundation, followed by a local guest speaker whose life has been touched by cancer
- 9:10 a.m. - 5k start
- 9:15 a.m. - 2-mile walk start
Race pricing
Race participant cost is $25 through September 15th, and $30 from September 16th through race day. Kids 10 and under can run or walk for FREE, but to ensure that all are covered properly on the liability insurance we ask that all participants register online (the youth discount will be applied automatically; must be accompanied by an adult at all times on the course; and no T-shirt is included if attending for free). Register by September 15th to receive a custom long-sleeved race T-shirt.
Timing
The 5k includes chip timing by Columbus Running Company. The 2-mile walk is untimed.
Parking
Parking is in the parking lots at the park and there will be ample parking. Please follow the instructions of all parking volunteers and public safety.
Awards
Awards are provided in the in-person 5k for the top three overall male and female finishers as well as the top three male and female finishers for each of the following age group categories:
