Awards Presentation: The Fountain on the square, if the weather is nice; All Believers in Christ Church, if the weather is inclement.

Why Liwiro la Malawi?

The money raised from this 5K Run/Walk will help to improve the lives of orphans at the Kanyenyeva Orphan Care Ministry in Malawi, Africa.

 Malawi is an extremely poor country of 15 million people.  There are at least 1 million orphans in Malawi due primarily to HIV/AIDS and malaria. The physical growth of at least 50% of the children under the age of 5 has been stunted because of chronic malnutrition.  It is estimated that 55% to 74% of its population live in extreme poverty. This is why Liwiro la Malawi (We run for Malawi).

 Malawi Orphan Care Project, Inc. (MOCP) is a 501(c)(3) that exists to improve the lives of orphaned children and their caregivers. MOCP works in partnership with community leaders in Malawi to address the physical, spiritual, economic and relational needs of the orphans and their caregivers in Malawi.

 On a regular basis, the orphan project:

-helps feed 600 orphans

-provides seeds and fertilizer for the orphan project and for the caregivers of the orphans

-provides 50 scholarships for high school students
