Join hundreds of other individuals like you beginning Monday, July 25th, 2022, for a 16-week training program in the Toledo area — geared to whip you into shape for regional marathon events like Columbus, Detroit, Indianapolis, and culminating at the annual Churchill's Half Marathon on Saturday, November 11th.

Dave's Running Shop also offers a remote training program for those who may have a hectic schedule and need to run at different times or live too far away to make it to in-person training. No matter the reason, Dave's Remote Training offers the same full program (online) with everything that the in-person program offers except for the official group workouts.


If you're looking to complete your first half-marathon, Dave's Running Shop will get you to the finish line with a detailed, 16-week training plan geared toward the November Churchill's Half Marathon. This training plan will gradually build your mileage and assist you in getting used to the longer training runs incrementally, so you are ready to tackle the half marathon distance by race day.

Goal (Race) Pace Per Mile

*Pace groups are subject to change based on group sizes. The top pace group may change based on the participants in the group. Generally, the pace groups begin for a goal race pace around 8:00 and under 12:00 minute pace for a marathon or half-marathon. The Open Pace/Low Mileage Group begins at 12:00 minute race pace and is supported through a 15:00 minute run/walk pace for a half-marathon ONLY.



6:30 PM - Walt Churchill Track, Perrysburg (will change to Fallen Timbers when daylight decreases)

The Thursday track workouts will consist of three varying “speed” sessions that will begin with Threshold pace workouts then move into Interval sessions.

  • Threshold training allows your body to elevate its lactate and improve upon cardio strength that will help you sustain a hard pace longer for the workload of your race, much like a fartlek session but a bit quicker.
  • The purpose of Interval training is to raise your body’s ability to consume and utilize oxygen or VO2 max. The intervals will be quicker than Threshold pace to get you close to 100% max VO2.

The most important part of any distance training program is the "long run." Every Saturday @ 8:00 AM, we will meet at local venues and other runner-friendly locations to complete the long mileage required for race day.
