Miles for Mattie

Want to help someone out just by getting active for a few minutes? This virtual race is a fundraiser for Mattie Deason, a dear friend who is experiencing some medical setbacks. Mattie is a marvelous young woman and mother to 3-year-old handsome Henry. Around Thanksgiving of 2023, Mattie suffered a series of heart attacks and strokes which affected her vision and overall health, leaving her unable to continue working and impacted her ability to fully care for herself and Henry. With the help and support of loving family and friends, Mattie re-learned how to talk, walk, and enjoy life with Henry. But the medical bills piled up and she has struggled against the system to be approved for disability assistance. Financial-related stress on top of all of life’s other obstacles has unfortunately induced another set of cardiac-related problems that has put her back in the hospital. The funds raised from this virtual race will help Mattie pay for health-related costs and assist Mattie’s family with caring for little Henry while he waits for his Mama to come home from the hospital.

How the Race Works

This is a virtual race which means you can walk or run your 3.1 miles for Mattie anywhere and anytime you choose (safely, of course!). Take a walk around your neighborhood, run on a treadmill, visit a local park, or even just walk in place in your living room–it’s up to you! When you’ve completed your miles, submit your virtual results and receive a commemorative medal for your efforts. Little Henry chose the design that incorporates Mattie’s favorites: the color green and turtles! Medals will ship February 28th, 2025, but you can complete your miles anytime before or after that date.
