Description

Where the River Runs 10 Mile Trail Race - May 18, 2024 - Shenango Trail

Come enjoy the beautiful woods of western Pennsylvania, while running alongside the 2021 River Of The Year, the Shenango River. This trail race will take place on the beautiful Shenango Trail. Used in the 1800s as a trail for a canal system, the canal's tow path became a hiking trail in the mid-20th century, then was neglected, and almost reclaimed by nature. Now after many years of work, the Shenango hiking trail has been brought back to life for everyone to enjoy! This Trail Race will be point to point, starting at the Big Bend trail head, and finishing at the beautiful Kidds Mill Covered Bridge. This will be a perfect race for beginners looking to try out trail running for the first time. For seasoned trail runner, it will be a great course for a flat and fast workout!

Registration: There will be no Race Day Registration. Register by May 1st to receive a t-shirt with your registration. Registration closes May 15th.

Race Day Bib Pick-up and Parking: Reynolds High School - 531 Reynolds Rd, Greenville, PA 16125. A shuttle will take you to the starting line at Big Bend and bring you back to your car from the finish line at Kidds Mill.

Shuttle Schedule: Buses will leave Reynolds High School to transport runners to the starting line at 8:00 and 8:30.

Route:
Runners will be shuttled by bus to the start line. The course will be point to point, running on beautiful single-track trail, with more than half the course having great views along the river. You will begin at the Big Bend trailhead on N. Bend Rd. The course will be roughly 10 miles in length, running north to finish at the Kidds Mill Covered Bridge. The course is very flat with only a little over a 100 ft of elevation gain, making it ideal for all levels of runners including beginners, along with experienced runners looking for a good workout! While the trail is flat, footing can be technical. There are many exposed roots along the dirt single-track trail. There will also be many small stream crossings with slopes to and from. Depending on weather, some streams could be high, and some areas of trail may be muddy - so be prepared!

Aid Stations:
There will be three aid stations along the course. The first one will be a water-only stop roughly 2.5 miles in. Aid station 2 will be at the halfway point of the race, roughly at 4.5 miles, at the New Hamburg road crossing. All runners will be REQUIRED TO CHECK IN at aid station 2 where there will be water, Gatorade and various nutrition. Aid station 3 will be at roughly mile 7, with water and some various nutrition.
