Wild Winter Challenges
Kids Wild Winter Challenge
Description
Let's crush the end of 2024 and continue right into the new year healthier, stronger, and ready to rock in 2025! Join us for the Wild Winter Challenge -- a mileage event designed to motivate you, challenge you, and add some fun to these long winter months.
The Wild Winter Challenge runs from Black Friday (11/29) through February 28, 2025. The goal is to log as many miles as possible -- at any speed you like -- during this 3-month time period. Participation is FREE for kids 17 and under -- we highly encourage kids of any age to participate and families to get out and do this together. 100% of the proceeds from the adult registration fee will fund our free youth outdoor programs here in PA for 2025, including our free annual kids-only trail series.
Record your miles right here in RunSignup as you complete them -- daily, hourly, weekly, monthly -- however you prefer to add them! You can track your total progress throughout the event duration. You'll be able to see where you stand among other participants and enjoy a little healthy competition with friends, family members, neighbors, or anyone else in the challenge -- it's open to participants everywhere.
How it works
Log every mile you complete starting on Black Friday (11/29) until 11:59 pm on February 28th right here in RunSignup -- the system will track mileage totals for all participants as you add them. The sky's the limit this winter! Be the person to log the most miles, create a mileage goal you'd like to hit, or just track your miles as you go and see how far you can propel yourself in 3 months.
What types of miles count for this event? Log any exercise-specific miles you complete by foot -- walking, running, or hiking. Miles can be logged on the road, trails, or treadmill -- whatever fits best in your life and works for you (although we highly encourage outdoor miles whenever possible)! You can also snowshoe or cross country ski your miles as well. This event is designed to get you active and moving beyond your normal daily activities, so steps taken throughout the course of a normal day at home or work do NOT count toward your log.
Reporting is honor-based -- no need to upload Strava data or record miles with a GPS. No one will be looking to DQ you. Do your best to get out on a daily basis and challenge yourself and your friends to meet some new goals along the way!

Swag
Adult participants who sign up before January 31, 2025 will receive a tech trucker hat with the Wild Winter Challenge logo. Our free Kids Challenge participants will receive a sticker and an embroidered patch. Hoodies and additional truckers can be purchased during registration checkout. Swag will be shipped as available (no later than mid-February), or you can opt to collect it in person at the Fire on the Rocks 10k in McElhattan, PA on March 15th -- the perfect race to sign up for now that you've put in all the training miles this winter!
Choose Your Goal and Crush It
When you sign up, you'll have the option to note your goal for this challenge. We'd love to hear what you're aiming to accomplish out there this winter! Some food for thought: if you complete just half a mile each day of the challenge, you'll have traveled 46 miles by the end of February. Tackle at least 1 mile each day of the challenge, and you'll reach 92 miles by the end. Log 3 miles every day of the challenge and you'll have completed 276 miles total!!
