Description
Each year CORA Physical Therapy chooses one model patient who demonstrates that CORA is connecting communities with purpose. That patient is highlighted and chooses a charity of their choice as the recipient of 100% of the proceeds of this event.
This year we chose Nevan, a teenage boy who wants to run and play volleyball and be just as active as his friends and classmates. Nevan has Legg-Calve'-Perthes Disease, often shortened to Perthes Disease, that affects about 200,000 children per year in the USA. The disease is most commonly seen in 4 to 10 year olds and is more common in males. Nevan attended PT at CORA in St. Louis. He had gone from having hardware in his leg to running and was an inspiration to the entire St. Louis team. They proclaimed, "Even through his treatment he never once complained while in the clinic; he kept up going to school and drama. He then set a goal for himself to get back to sports and he has done that!" Since he was chosen, he has had a setback and, unfortunately, he has now had a hip replacement as a result of Perthes.
100% of the proceeds from this event will go to PerthesKids.org.
Registration is only $20.
As of 9/28/22, the event type was changed from Run / Walk to Virtual event on RunSignUp. NOTHING HAS CHANGED WITH THE EVENT other than this now allows virtual runners to upload their time if they want. The LIVE event will still take place on Saturday, October 1 at 9:00 and the VIRTUAL event is open from October 1 to October 9, 2022. At least partly due to Hurricane Ian, the date has been extended to OCTOBER 16, 2022!
The 2022 5K will be both VIRTUAL and LIVE. The LIVE event will take place on Saturday October 1, 2022 at Nevan's high school, Westminster Academy, in Town and Country, MO. Start time is 9:00 am.
If you choose the VIRTUAL event, this means you can complete your event ANYWHERE: at home, at work, on the beach, on a trail, on a treadmill. It's up to you. The date is focused on Saturday October 1, 2022, but the virtual race will be open from October 1 to October 16, 2022, including Physical Therapy Day of Service on Saturday, October 8, 2022. CORA Physical Therapy encourages an active lifestyle, so the 5K can be done as a run, walk, bike, swim, rollerblade or any combination of the above. We are looking for active people who also want to support Nevan and the fight against Perthes Disease and for PerthesKids.org.
