Each year Save One Soul Animal Rescue League hosts an in-person 5K event to raise funds for animal rescue. We took our event virtual last year and are doing the same again this year! Our "race" is a virtual mileage accumulation challenge with three virtual routes for you to choose from; each leg of the virtual event represents a numerical accomplishment achieved by our organization in 2020.
The challenge spans six weeks, and participants can accrue miles on their own or in teams by walking, running, biking, jogging, indoor or outdoor, crawling - whatever they need to do to get 'er done! Once the race is finished, race participants will receive a fun custom medal (see below) representing the challenge(s) completed!
All proceeds and fundraising from this event directly impact the number of dogs we can help find and succeed in loving homes! We ensure all our pups are up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines, monthly heart worm and flea & tick preventatives, and are spayed/neutered before traveling to New England; as you can imagine, there’s a hefty cost behind all of that. While a large portion of our operating budget comes from adoption donations, we rely on events like The Crate Escape to provide much needed funds to do right by each of our dogs, and to expand our services and programs.

Each month, SOSARL facilitates the placement of an average of 50 dogs into loving homes. To make that number a reality, we rely upon a small army of dedicated volunteers to collect pictures and video of our dogs, post and promote our dogs online and at events, review adoption inquiries and applications, host virtual and in-person meet-n-greets, all to help our adopters, and our dogs, find their perfect match. Show your support of our adoptions program by registering for this race leg.
Fostering: while it may be one of the most rewarding volunteer duties, it may also be the hardest - both physically and emotionally. To do what we do, we rely upon a committed and tireless group of foster homes to provide each of our dogs with a safe place to decompress and get healthy, learn about the world and build their confidence while awaiting adoption. Some dogs are only in foster care for a few hours...some quite a bit longer. In 2020, over 80 households across Rhode Island and Connecticut opened their hearts and homes time and time again to care for an SOS dog on their journey to finding their furever home. Join the Foster Challenge to stand (or run/walk) proud with these life-saving heroes!
Pet homelessness and euthanasia is a complicated issue, and there is no silver-bullet solution. SOS helps at-risk animals by rehabilitating and connecting them with good new homes, while also sponsoring region-specific programs with the goal to ultimately reduce the number of at-risk animals who need our help. SOS partners with Thousand Hills Veterinary Services in Batesville, AR to sponsor low-cost and free community spay/neuters to help "break the cycle" and reduce the number of unwanted litters. In 2020, in addition to the 500+ animals that we spayed/neutered prior to adoption, SOSARL sponsored over 120 spay/neuters of community animals. Commit to the Spay/Neuter Challenge to show your support for breaking the cycle!
