Rucking Acknowledgment, Assumption of Risk, and Release of Liability
I acknowledge that this event may permit rucking, defined as running or walking while carrying a weighted backpack or similar load. I understand that rucking substantially increases physical demands and introduces additional risks, including but not limited to muscle strains, ligament injuries, stress injuries, joint damage, spinal or back injuries, falls, overexertion, dehydration, heat-related illness, cardiovascular events, and other serious or catastrophic injury.
I expressly agree that participation in rucking is entirely voluntary and undertaken at my own risk. I certify that I am medically cleared, physically capable, and adequately trained to safely carry additional weight for the full duration of the event.
I understand and agree that ruck weight limits are established as follows, with all weights measured as total pack weight, inclusive of the backpack, plates, water, and all contents:
Participants weighing under 150 pounds: minimum ruck weight of 10 pounds
Participants weighing 150 pounds or more: minimum ruck weight of 20 pounds
Maximum ruck weight for all participants: 30 pounds
I acknowledge that my body weight for rucking classification purposes is self-reported and that I am solely responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable minimum weight requirements.
I further understand and agree that:
The backpack or rucksack must be designed to securely carry weight and must be worn at all times while rucking
All weight must be fully enclosed within the pack; handheld weights, loose items, or external attachments are prohibited
The pack must be securely fastened and may not pose a hazard to the participant or others
Richmond Road Runners Club may, at its discretion, inspect ruck equipment and weight for general safety purposes only; any such inspection does not constitute a guarantee of compliance or safety
Richmond Road Runners Club reserves the right to deny, revoke, or modify rucking participation at any time for safety, compliance, or operational reasons
I acknowledge that course terrain, weather, elevation changes, surface conditions, and participant congestion may further increase the risks associated with rucking, and I voluntarily assume all such risks whether participating in an in-person or virtual format.
I understand and expressly agree that, to the fullest extent permitted by law, the Richmond Road Runners Club is not liable for any injury, illness, death, loss, or damage arising out of or related to my participation in rucking activities, including but not limited to injuries resulting from excess weight, improper equipment, fatigue, environmental conditions, course design, or my own actions or omissions. I further understand that Richmond Road Runners Club does not provide medical screening, training guidance, equipment, or supervision specific to rucking and disclaims any responsibility for my preparation, equipment selection, or execution of rucking activities.
