2025 Kansas City Zoo Run, Run For the Lions

I know that running a road race is a potentially hazardous activity and is an extreme test of a person's physical and mental limits and carries with it the potential for death, serious injury, and property damage.  I acknowledge and agree that it is my responsibility to determine whether I am sufficiently fit and healthy enough to safely participate in an Event or events, and I attest and certify that I am or will be sufficiently fit and physically trained to participate in any Event or Events, which I elect to enter or participate in. I should not enter and run the 4 Mile or 1 Mile event(s) unless I am medically able and properly trained. (hereinafter called the "Event").  I also know that, although police protection will be provided, there will be traffic on the course route. I assume the risk of running in traffic. I also assume any and all other risks associated with running this event, including but not limited to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of weather including high heat and/or humidity, cold wind, snow, fog, rain or ice and the condition of the roads, all such risks being known and appreciated by me. I understand that I am solely responsible for my own safety while traveling to and from or participating in this event.  

I acknowledge and assume all of the risks and aspects of an Event. I understand that participation includes possible exposure to illness from infectious diseases including but not limited to MRSA, influenza, and COVID-19 including all variants associated with the former. I understand that even people who show no symptoms can spread COVID-19, and other infectious diseases, if they are infected. I acknowledge that COVID-19 and other infectious diseases are extremely contagious diseases that can lead to severe illness and death. I hereby acknowledge that by running in a road race held by Event Midwest, and contracted through the Kansas City Zoo, I expose myself to a medical risk and I voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

I agree to abide by all decisions of the race officials relative to my ability to safely complete this race. I agree not to wear headsets, roller blades or skates during the race. I agree not to run with baby strollers/joggers, scooters or bring dogs onto the race course. Knowing these facts, and in consideration of your accepting my entry, I hereby for myself, my heirs, executors, administrators or anyone else who might claim on my behalf, covenant not to sue, and waive, release and forever discharge the Friends of the Zoo, Inc., Kansas City, MO., Kansas City Parks and Recreation, organizers (including race directors), Event Midwest, LLC, USATF, KC Running Company; vendors, and other participating area sponsors; City of Kansas City, Missouri including their Police Department, Race Officials, and all volunteers; all other persons or entities involved with the Event, states, cities, towns, and other governmental bodies and locations in which the Event or portions of the Event takes place, and the officers, directors, employees, agents, insurers, other participants and representatives of all of the above (collectively, the "Released Parties"), from any and all claims, causes of action, damages, losses (economic and non-economic), and liabilities of every kind (collectively "Claims"), for death, personal injury, or property damage, which may arise out of, result from, or relate to my participation in, or my traveling to or from, the Event, including but not limited to any Claims for theft, damage to any equipment, negligence, partial or permanent disability, Claims relating to the provision of first aid, medical care, medical treatment, or medical decisions (at the Event site or elsewhere), and any Claims for medical or hospital expenses.

I understand that the rules of the USAT&F regarding drug testing may be obtained by calling the U.S.O.C. at 1-800-233-0393.

This Release and Waiver extends to all claims of every kind or nature whatsoever, foreseen or unforeseen, known or unknown. The undersigned further grants full permission to all of the persons or entities in this waiver and/or agents and licensees authorized by them the right, permission, and authority to use my name, voice, picture, or photograph, in any broadcast, telecast, commercial advertisement, promotion, or other account of an Event, and I waive any rights to future compensation to which I might otherwise have been entitled for such use.

The parent or legal guardian who signs the Waiver Agreement on behalf of a minor, incapacitated and/or mentally challenged person (hereinafter "Said Person"), hereby acknowledges that he or she has the legal capacity and authority to act on behalf of Said Person to legally bind Said Person to the Waiver Agreement. The parent or legal guardian who signs the Waiver Agreement agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties for any expenses incurred, Claims made, or liabilities assessed against them, as a result of any insufficiency of legal capacity or authority to act on behalf of Said Person in the execution of the Waiver Agreement.

In order to protect our participants and insure a safe event, each individual participating in this event must be officially registered under his or her own name with accurate personal information. Failure to do so will void the registration and prohibit participation. Registration entries cannot be transferred to another person without prior consent and completion of all personal information in the registration system.  Race/Bib numbers cannot be transferred to another person under any circumstance or used by registrant in subsequent years. Registration fees are non-refundable in all cases regardless of inability to participate or event cancellation. The race director reserves the right to cancel the event because of weather, natural disaster or other unforeseen circumstances which pose a significant danger to the participants. No deferments.
