The Greco-Persian Wars were a series of conflicts between the Achaemenid Empire (also known as the First Persian Empire) and Greek city-states that started in 499 BC and lasted until 449 BC. Over these 50 years, the Persian Empire launched many attacks, starting with Thrace to the north, and subsequently all along the shores of Eastern Greece.
The year is 490 BC, and the Persians are landing at Marathon, preparing for an attack. Pheidippides has been sent from Athens to go to Sparta to ask the Spartans for help in the ensuing battle.
