Milestone for Friends of the Forest
This team hasn’t reached this milestone yet.
80 - miles! 80! Reflect on that number for a bit. Take a minute to look around you – what do you see? What do you hear? It is important to remember to enjoy the miles! Also, just for some perspective, the distance between the Sequoia Entrance Station and the Kings Canyon Entrance station is 48-miles - you’ve almost done an entrance station to entrance station to entrance station. We know it's not as exciting as a Rim to Rim to Rim like at the Grand Canyon – but hey it’s still pretty amazing and something to celebrate!
Speaking of celebrating! We want to celebrate YOU! Post a picture of your accomplishment and tag us and use the hashtag #runningwild.
To celebrate your 80-mile accomplishment we want to take you to Beetle Rock. Like Moro Rock, Beetle Rock is one of the great monoliths of Sequoia National Park. Not only does it have an amazing geologic story but it also has a wonderful cultural story. Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are the homelands of the Mono (Monache), Yokuts, Tübatulabal, Paiute, and Western Shoshone.
To learn more about the tribal history in the park please visit Native Americans of the Southern Sierra Nevada. We also encourage everyone to visit the Hospital Rock interpretive displays next time you visit the park to hear the story of the tribes from their perspective.
You’ve got 120-miles to the finish and we are with you every step of the way.
You’ve got this!
