Nearly half of the Americans who died at Pearl Harbor—1,177 of the 2,390 total fatalities that day—were aboard the USS Arizona. The battleship sank in minutes after a bomb struck its forward magazine, igniting more than one million pounds of ammunition. Today, the remains of the ship still lie in the waters of Pearl Harbor.
