September 25th-26th, Backpacking

This workshop will be lead by two experience backpackers to introduce you to the experience of backpacking and to help facilate the overnight experience. This workshop will be lead by Buckeye Trail Association volunteers.

Participants will meet on Friday morning in Shawnee to begin the backpaking workshop. The discusswill include tips and tricks for backpacking.

Basic items discuss in the orientation:

  • Types of backpacks and how to pack.
  • What personal equipment is need for a multi-day trek.
  • Hydration: pack it or filter
  • Food, nutrietion and how to prepare meals on the trail.
  • basic Leave No Trace Principles

 

The event registration fee will include the event t-shirt, finishers patch and food for lunch (Friday), dinner and breakfast on Saturday.

Schedule

Friday

  • 10:00am  arrive, Welcome to backpacking
  • 3:30pm    Leave for the Buckeye Trail
  • 6:00pm    arrive to campsite, setup camp and prepare dinner as a group

Saturday

  • 7:00am    Breakfast
  • 8:00am    backpack back to Shawnee

 

All participants should plan to bring there own personal gear.

  • personal hygene supplies (toiletries)
  • change of clothes
  • rain gear or jacket
  • cup, utensiles (fork & spoon), plate/bowl
  • backpack to carry your personal gear
  • sleeping bag and pad
  • small tent (1 or 2 person size)
  • water bottle(s) (2 quarts total)
  • special personal food/snack needs

When registering please indicate any food restrictions or health issues. All participants will be backpacking and carrying their personal gear to the overnight location.
