Greenville Journal Run Downtown 5K
Description
The 47th annual Greenville Journal Run Downtown 5K is held on the third Saturday of each January. For 2026, this will be Jan 17.
The race is one of the oldest, largest and most popular 5K events in the state, running strong since 1979.

Stay warm before the race
For the third consecutive year, the Courtyard Hotel has graciously welcomed race participants into their warm lobby before the race. Please use your quiet indoor voice as some of their guests may still be sleeping at that early morning hour. The hotel is across from the Peace Center on W. Broad St.

Awards
Chip time will be used for all awards, including overall awards. Top 3 male and female for:

Awards ceremony will begin around 8:50 AM.
Awards will also be given to Corporate Shield runners.
Refunds
Due to the costs incurred in planning and conducting this event, there are no refunds, deferrals, or transfer to other races. However, race fee insurance is available during registration. Thank you for your understanding.
Q & A
Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. Unfortunately, our insurance coverage does not allow for this.
Q. Are strollers allowed?
A. For safety reasons, including safety of the child, caution is advised. Parents with strollers should gravitate toward the back at the starting area.
Q. Is it okay if I just walk the route?
A. Yes, and you would want to start in the back for safety reasons. Please keep in mind that all participants should plan to cross the finish line no later than 9:30 (90 minute allowance). For example, a 28 minute pace walker would be fine (28 minutes x 3.11 miles = 87.1 minutes).
Q. How is the race timed?
A. Chip timing mats will be used at the start and finish.
