Greenville Journal Run Downtown 5K
Description
The 48th annual Greenville Journal Run Downtown 5K is held on the third Saturday of each January. For 2027, this will be Jan 16.
The race is one of the oldest, largest and most popular 5K events in the state, running strong since 1979.

Packet Pickup
Friday afternoon, January 15
Noon to 6:00 pm, Fleet Feet store, 635 Augusta St, Greenville. Greenville area participants are asked to do their packet pick up on this day (Friday). You may have a family member or friend pick up your packet on Friday.
Saturday morning, January 16
Mainly for out-of-towners. 6:00 AM to 7:45 AM inside the Courtyard hotel, 50 W. Broad St., Greenville.

5k Route
Directions (course monitors and arrows will help guide you at the turns):
Start on S. Main St. at the south end of the Main Street bridge.
Go north and turn left on W. Washington St.
Turn left on S. Richardson St (turns into River St.)
Turn right onto S. Main St.
Turn right onto Perry Avenue
Turn right onto Rhett
Turn right onto N. Markley
Turn left onto S. Main St.
Turn left onto River St.
Turn right onto W. Washington St.
Turn right onto N. Main St.
Finish back at the start line on S. Main St.

Chip time will be used for all awards, including overall awards. Top 3 male and female for:

Refunds
Due to the costs incurred in planning and conducting this event, there are no refunds, deferrals, or transfer to other races. However, race fee insurance is available during registration. Thank you for your understanding.
Q & A
Q. Are dogs allowed?
A. Unfortunately, our insurance coverage does not allow for this.
Q. Are strollers allowed?
A. For safety reasons, including safety of the child, caution is advised. Parents with strollers should gravitate toward the back at the starting area.
Q. Is it okay if I just walk the route?
A. Yes, and you would want to start in the back for safety reasons. Please keep in mind that all participants should plan to cross the finish line no later than 9:30 (90 minute allowance). For example, a 28 minute pace walker would be fine (28 minutes x 3.11 miles = 87.1 minutes).
Q. How is the race timed?
A. Chip timing mats will be used at the start and finish.
