Hampton County is home to the oldest continuing festival in the State of South Carolina,
The Hampton County Watermelon Festival.
The festival is run by an all volunteer committee of Hampton County residents who have a deep and abiding love for our community. We strive to honor community traditions built over 77 years of Watermelon Festival's, as well as move forward with fresh ideas and new events to keep our Hampton County citizens and guests engaged and excited to come back and enjoy the Festival year after year.
Your HCWF Committee takes the responsibilities of the Festival very seriously, so it is with heavy hearts and deep regret that we must announce that we will have to cancel the Hampton County Watermelon Festival this year due to the Coronavirus COVID Pandemic.
We want everyone to know...
The timeframe required to handle all of the logistics and work required to put on the Watermelon Festival takes several months. We put off making this decision as long as we could in hopes of more solid information which might allow us some alternatives; however, we are close enough to Festival time now that a decision had to be made regarding printing, venue and band reservations/deposits, etc. We asked questions and researched the information being given to large event organizers regarding "best guess" on when large events will be able to take place again. Unfortunately, the information we are being given is far past the last week of June when our Hampton County Watermelon Festival is held. In fact, nobody can say for sure how long after June it will be before events where large crowds are gathered will be able to safely resume.
As hard as this decision is to accept, we really have no choice. We want to assure everyone that we will be working very hard to make next year's Watermelon Festival the very best it can be. As disappointing as missing out on having our community's much loved event this year will be... we hope next year's Festival will be appreciated twice as much. The Oldest Continuing Festival in the State of South Carolina WILL continue to hold that honor!
