Jace's Story

Jaces Story...

Our son Jace was born on October 2, 2013. He was a perfect healthy baby. We found out that he had moderate to severe hearing loss at the age of 1 month. He was fitted with his first set of hearing aids at 3 months old. Since then he has been going through speech therapy. He has had great success.

At just about 2 years old we found out that his hearing had gotten worse. It was now Severe in both ears. The doctors were very quick to get us to Mayo Clinic to see what the next steps were. Jace was scheduled for surgery in December of 2015. It was a rough thing for all of the family to go through. He bounced back right after surgery. He had his Cochlear Implant turned on right after the first of the year in 2016.Before his implant he was only saying 4-6 words, after his first implant was turned on he started catching on quite quickly.

Last July we revisited the Mayo Clinic and talked about placing a second implant. They were on board with placing a second one since his hearing had gotten significantly worse on that side as well. His second implant was in August of last year. Just like the first surgery, he bounced back right away. In September Jace and I went to the Mayo Clinic for 2 weeks of intensive speech therapy.

He is now speaking sentences and blows us away with how far he has come. With very supportive family, amazing teachers and therapists behind him he is doing amazing. Jace is doing skill builders as well as speech. He loves going to school and learning with his friends. He loves to play outside and follow mamma and papa around, be on the boat and play on his iPad. We go back to the Mayo in October again for a check up. Praying all goes well and there are no more surgeries in his future.

With all of your help and the Hearing Health Foundation we are hoping that Other kids like Jace will be able to hear WITHOUT the help of hearing aids or a Cochlear Implant.
It is truly a miracle what doctors can do. BUT, we need your help to cure hearing loss and tinnitus in our lifetime.
