Add’l

Our racing mission continues to be to produce affordable, hedonistically fun & athletically competitive races, that are technically sound (correctly-measured courses with minimum turns and visible distance – mile or Km – markers),  that also benefit some charity(-ies) with a populist & gender parity focus – for the average runner/walker (including the novices) and also for the seasoned, serious racer****.

On Dec. 14th, 2012   -- a mere eleven days before Christmas -- our nation, indeed the world, was shocked by a horrific event that day – the brutal, merciless massacre of 26 people, including 20 innocent, young children, in Newtown, CT. The town continues to recover. But it hasn’t been, and it won’t be, easy. The trauma and loss of it all have affected not only the families and friends of the victims, but also the police officers who responded to the emergency calls and were the first to witness the carnage; and the teachers who survived the nightmare but are now bereft of their beloved students and co-workers; and the residents of  Newtown as a whole who now have to recover and heal from this devastating tragedy. Their healing from their tremendous grief can be made easier if we can reach out to them in caring empathy and sharingness. As one of the speakers said at the Vigil for the victims on Dec. 16th, 2012, “let’s transform our passion into a spirit of compassion.”  And so we bring you a road race to help in that regard.****

Net cash proceeds from the race will benefit Newtown Alumni Fund (via Newtown Rotary) [www.newtownalumnifund.org]   Donated kids’ gifts, toys, stuffed animals, etc. for SafeHaven of Tarrant County [www.safehaventc.org] – for kids who are victims of domestic violence.****
