Description
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) conference of St. Helen Catholic Church, Georgetown, Texas, relies on generous donations from St. Helen parishioners, community sponsors, and the Friends of the Poor® Walk to serve families in need in our community through scheduled home visits. Your donations will enable us to raise additional funds so we can help those calling for financial assistance. They have many needs, the largest of which is rent, utilities and food. Reasons for this assistance may be they have been unable to work due to illness, experiencing lost/reduced work hours or had an unexpected expense. We invite you to take part in the Walk to make a positive impact in our community.
The Walk will take place October 18, 2025, at Yettie Polk Park in Belton, Texas (101 South Davis Street, Belton, TX 76513). Registration begins at 9:00am and the walk begins at 9:30am. Closing and final prayer at 10:30am. Refreshments will be provided during the event. There are two walking routes available: one is 1.2 miles long and the other is 1.5 miles long. You are welcome to walk either route or both. If you're unable to attend the walk, you can still show your support in spirit (Walking is not required.) Let's come together to assist our neighbors in need with compassion and community.
Here is how we helped our community in the last year:
- Home Visits: 385 households
- Rent assistance: $160,654
- Other: $109,412
- Total: $270,066
“The Lord hears the cry of the poor, let us do the same by being the feet of Jesus. PROCEED quietly, PRAY a great deal, ACT together.”
- St. Vincent de Paul
