Description
The Grit Ultra Backyard Challenge: Test Your Limits This New Year's Eve!
Race Overview
Step into the ultimate endurance test with The Grit Ultra Backyard Challenge inspired by the renowned “Backyard Ultra” format, this race offers participants a unique and thrilling experience, with capped distances that allow for targeted goals.
What is the Backyard Ultra Format?
In a traditional backyard ultra, runners typically compete in a "last man standing" style, running a set loop every hour until only one runner remains. However, The Grit Ultra Backyard Challenge takes a different approach. We’ve capped the distances at 50K, 50 Miles, 100K, or 100 Miles, so runners can aim for a specific distance while still embracing the spirit of endurance that defines the backyard format.
Runners will complete a 4.2-mile trail loop every hour, on the hour, and must finish each loop within the hour to continue. Miss the cutoff, and your challenge ends. Our course is a beautiful, rugged 4.2-mile trail through Hanson Riverside Park in West Columbia, TX, offering a blend of mild elevations, wooded paths, and open spaces.
A Unique Twist: Team Relay Option
One feature that sets The Grit Ultra Backyard Challenge apart is our Relay Option. Teams of 2 to 6 runners can work together, taking turns to complete the loops and splitting the mileage to reach the chosen distance goal.
