And finally a huge thank you to our Father in Heaven for allowing us to enjoy and share precious moments with Paula during these past 4 years. She could have perfectly died 4 years ago, but He gave us a gift. The gift of life. The gift of grieving over time. The gift of sharing important milestones in our lives, like Danny's High School Graduation, Danny's Missionary Call, Jacob's Baptism, Camila's first job, Benjamin's priesthood ordination, and Cub Scout graduation, Paula and I's US citizenship ceremony, Danny's Eagle Scout rank ceremony, precious time spent with our extended family, grandparents, cousins, etc., various weddings and some funerals of loved ones, etc., etc.
Indeed we have been greatly blessed during these very difficult past 4 years.
This was our last Run4Paula, however, we hope to see you soon.

Gracias a mi familia, a mis hijos y en especial a Patricia, mi suegra por todos sus sacrificios y esfuerzos.
Y por fin un enorme agradecimiento a nuestro Padre Celestial por permitirnos disfrutar y compartir momentos preciosos con Paula durante estos últimos 4 años. Ella podría haber muerto perfectamente hace 4 años, pero Él nos dio un don. El don de la vida. El don de un duelo lento. El don de compartir eventos importantes en nuestras vidas, como la graduación de Danny del High School, la llamado misionero de Danny, el bautismo de Jacob, el primer trabajo de Camila, la ordenación del sacerdocio de Benjamin, y la graduación de Cub Scout, La ceremonia de ciudadanía de Estados Unidos para mi y Paula, la ceremonia de rango de Eagle Scout de Danny, precioso tiempo pasado con nuestra familia, abuelos, primos, etc., varias bodas y algunos funerales de seres queridos, etc., etc.
De hecho, hemos sido muy bendecidos durante estos difíciles últimos 4 años.

Paula's Story
Paula was involved in a serious car accident in Saratoga Springs, Utah, on November 24, 2015. Paula was transferred to IMC hospital in Murray, Utah, then spent one month in Promise Hospital in Salt Lake City, to then receive care at Country Life Care Center for one year. Finally, in March 2017, her family had the joy of having her back home. Her condition was very serious with a perforation in the lung, fractured neck, and a severe traumatic brain injury, especially to the left side of her brain, leaving her in a coma for almost 2 months. When she woke up, Paula found herself completely paralyzed, unable to speak or eat by herself. Since then she has fought along with her family, slowly making progress, to now be able to move her left arm and leg, her head side to side and communicate with signs with her left hand. Unfortunately, Paula has faced new physical challenges these past couple of years such as kidney stones, recurring urinary tract infections, seizures, Dysautonomia, and infections and respiratory failures.
Paula is married and is a mother of 5 beautiful children ages 8 through 22 years old. She's the oldest of 7 and her family lives in Chile. Paula was a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Argentina, where she helped hundreds of people, especially aboriginal people with their vegetable gardens, hygiene, health, etc. Paula married Alejandro de Santiago in 1996 in Santiago, Chile to then move back to Utah to complete his college degree. She has suffered from panic attacks since she was 17 years old, therefore she looked for different ways to lighten up her load (Sports, Manual Arts, etc.). In 2007, a friend invited her to run and she loved it. Then she spent her spare time running, swimming and cycling and has competed in more than 20 races (marathons and triathlons) in recent years. She was also a Cub Scout and Boy Scouts and participated in the highest training that a scout leader can achieve, the Wood Badge. Paula is cheerful, friendly, spontaneous, crazy, sincere, loving, attentive, kind, brave and loved by thousands.
We believe that miracles have happened and will continue to occur in her life and her family's life, maybe not the miracles we seek. Please join us in prayer for her, whether it is to stay and improve her health, or finish her mission on this earth and join her family and Heavenly Parents on the other side of the veil.

Nuestra querida Paula tuvo un grave accidente automovilístico en Saratoga Springs, Utah, el 24 de noviembre de 2015. Paula fue trasladada al hospital IMC en Murray, Utah, después estuvo 1 mes en Promise Hospital de Salt Lake City, para despues recibir cuidados en Country Life Care Center por 1 año. Finalmente en Marzo de 2017, su familia tuvo el gozo de tenerla de vuelta en casa. Su estado fue muy grave con una perforación en el pulmón, cuello fracturado, y un traumatismo craneoencefálico muy grave, especialmente en el lado izquierdo de su cerebro, dejándola en coma durante casi 2 meses. Cuando despertó, Paula se encontró paralizada completamente, sin poder hablar o comer por sí sola. Desde entonces ha luchado junto a su familia, progresado lentamente, para ahora poder mover con esfuerzo su brazo y pierna izquierda, su cabeza de lado a lado y comunicarse con señas con su mano izquierda. Lamentablemente, en estos último años Paula se ha enfrentado a nuevos desafíos físicos como cálculos renales, infecciones urinarias recurrentes, convulsiones, Dysautonomia, y paros respiratorios.
Paula está casada y es madre de 5 hermosos niños de 8 a 22 años de edad. Ella es la mayor de 7 y su familia vive en Chile. Paula fue una misionera SUD en Argentina, donde ayudó a cientos de personas, especialmente aborígenes con sus huertos, higiene, salud, etc. Paula se casó con Alejandro de Santiago en 1996 en Santiago, Chile y luego se mudaron de vuelta a Utah para completar sus estudios universitarios. Ella ha sufrido de Ataques de Pánico desde que tenía 17 años y por eso ha buscado diferentes maneras de alivianar su carga (deportes, artes manuales, etc.). En 2007 una amiga la invitó a correr y le encantó, para después dedicar su tiempo libre para correr, nadar y andar en bicicleta. Paula compitió en más de 20 carreras (maratones y triatlones) durante este tiempo. También Paula fue una líder Cub y Boy Scouts, y participó en el entrenamiento más alto que un líder de Scout puede completar, el Wood Badge. Paula es alegre, amigable, espontánea, loca, sincera, cariñosa, atenta, amable, valiente y amada por miles.
Creemos que los milagros han ocurrido y seguirán ocurriendo en su vida y la vida de su familia, tal vez no los que buscamos. Por favor, únase a nosotros en oración por el bienestar de Paula, ya sea con salud física o con la bendición de cumplir su misión aquí en la tierra y reunirse con su familia y Padres Celestiales en el otro mundo.
